  • Yes I do RTFT now sir.

  • whats the progress on your build DJ?

  • I think I will have to skim through this whole thread to find out stuff like why you never included belt drive compatibility or a different bar setup. Long rides would surely demand more hand positions no? Its probably all been discussed already, so Ill go look.

Drops can be used on the non-Rohloff config. Rohloff shifter predicated the flat bar, the hydraulic disc brake levers sealed it for this config.

It is belt drive compatible and parts are being acquired now.

Bear in mind my investment was largely in the design of the frame. The photos show the first config only, not the only config possible.

  • spoke to robin today

he has been busy building his own ti frame, then has 2 more to do before mine

currently trying to talk him into joining us for the italy trip

    Nice.

  • Looks like Robin Mather has stopped taking orders for the time being

    http://www.robinmathercycles.co.uk/

  • His site as far as I know hasn't been update in donkey age, so he might still be taking orders now.

  • He gets enough orders privately to keep him busy and I know for a fact that he's taken some orders for Ti bikes recently. He's very much open to offer but dislikes the stress of a long queue and people hassling him, which to be perfectly frank is fair enough.

  • Just in the process of getting my Mather built! Been on the waiting list for about 2 years, he dropped me an email out of the blue... very exciting.

  • Congrats, what are you getting?

  • Tourer- classic geometry with some special extras. Think im going to follow David's lead and get sliding drops, also double fork crown like so:

    internal cable routing for dynamo
    Fillet brazed stem
    Full set of racks

    and a massive bank loan...

  • Excellent stuff, my kinda bicycle.

  • I thought he was only building in titanium now?

  • He is stopping Ti at the mo- says its too time consuming. He's about to move workshops to somewhere in central Bristol too- moving up in the world.

    Excellent stuff, my kinda bicycle.

Its been a long long time coming... cant wait.

  • There's a small profile piece about Robin on Headsetpress at the mo. Some cool pics of his workshop at the top of the article.

  • Like the photos in that article, his original frame jig was made by dave yates, I've used a similar one. Would like to have a play about with his new one that he's made

  • Increasingly I've tended to appreciate things on the forum without registering my approval with a post. From sheer laziness presumably, though it doesn't stop me having a right moan when the occasion arises...

Anyway, I just want to say that this looks very cool indeed Jo (is that your name?). I'm sure it's going to be extraordinary and I can't wait to see it finished! Thanks for bothering to put the photo up. Do you have any more?

This is great. Have read a few articles, but they have all been pretty old. Loving that lathe - desktops rule. I turned one down a couple of years back like that- massive regret now I tell you!

Thanks Superprecise. Its going to be quite a process. No more pics, but will flood you all very shortly!

  • Build taking shape!

Went for a long session with Robin - very exciting!

  • cant wait to see this

  • Do your website!

I know love it- I have one in my workshop too... great minds - though his is a great deal greater.

  • I feel like doing his website for him. His frames are far too good for the world not to know.

  • sorry to bump, but saw him in action today...what a talent

  • Images of my bike have been made available again over here:

    Changes since those photos:

    1) Sold the Clavicula cranks which didn't really work with the bike (aesthetically), and installed a pair of Specialites TA Carmina cranks in silver, which look great.

    2) De-stickered the Edge rims as soon as I received the bike as they are a bit shouty, the bike became somewhat understated as a result.

    3) Replaced the tyres with Schwalbe Marathons.

Nothing else has changed, it's done about 10,000 miles. Started out as the nice bike, became the every day bike, and unfortunately hasn't been used in the last couple of months because of sciatica. There are now some usage marks on the paint work, and there is a ding in the top tube due to being knocked whilst in the house (it lives in a narrow corridor when it's not being ridden).

No complaints with any of it... but... if I were to do it again...

I'd seriously consider getting regular gears. The Rohloff is incredible, really is. But I dislike the fact that the shifter prohibits the use of drop bars and that there is no elegant solution to that.

I'd also consider just buying off the peg racks. Racks are a contact point for luggage, and get beaten up quite badly. So the paint on mine is scratched there the most. I also had difficulty finding a bag for the front rack. I eventually got a Boxy Rando from http://www.acornbags.com/ but I could've have a wider choice with standard racks.

The ride is still wonderful, and it still turns heads almost every time it's taken out.
