  • Spotted, me on my arse in the underground carpark at work this morning. If they know the drainage doesn't work why the fuck make the road surface out of glass.

    /rantover

Spotted hardly anybody cycling this morning coz they're all off for xmas. Awesome nodderton free ride in.

  • Indeed, very quiet this morning..
That was until I got stuck behind about 100 of the Queen's horses trotting from the Palace up towards Regents Park.
Big giant stinky fucking things that they are.

  • +1 fucking hate horses.

  • No way - I love seeing horses. I once saw a herd cantering along Fitzjohn Avenue on a crisp Spring morning. It was awesome.

  • I imagine I have a starring role in many a tourist video from this morning as I rolled at about 2mph behind the precession ha

  • ^ I agree it was quite a pleasure to see because it was unusual and felt oddly British but I just didn't need all the anuses creaking open and dropping scotch eggs of shit all over the road right in front of me

  • I ride through hyde park daily and those horses from the barracks constantly plaster the road with shit that doesn't get cleaned up by the street cleaners. Filthy pointless things.

  • You're not an allotment holder then?

  • Spotted, me on my arse in the underground carpark at work this morning. If they know the drainage doesn't work why the fuck make the road surface out of glass.

This has also happened to me.

  • I am not offended but I don't think I agree either. DJ wasn't talking about paying respects after all - he was talking about campaigning events. I have to admit, I too find it surprising that we have all the rider down threads and yet only ever a handful of forumengers getting involved with lobbying/campaign work.

And people don't have to go to this sort of event, either. There are plenty of other ways of getting involved, such as going to an LCC local group meeting, and lots of different things to do, from campaigning to have street and junction layouts changed to running events, etc.

  • FWIW I want to lend my support and the plight of cyclists affected in this way in London concerns me greatly... But... I don't attend such events simply because I rarely feel that the solutions vocally campaigned for chime with my own politics or personal feelings. I'd feel a charlatan or a mawkish bystander if I attended and as such I stay away - feeling that an event potentially intended for the inclusion of families affected by tragedy etc is not the place for someone whose views may actually contrast with many of the attendees. I think it's worth recalling that we make the decision on a daily basis to promote cycling by getting on our bikes and using the roads while interacting with other road users... By being spotted as it were - which reminds me where I am. Sorry.

  • I know I started this but we really should >>>> to the correct place with this.

  • Where to then? I'll copy and paste elsewhere.

  • Dude with forum cap ghost riding a bike down holloway road towards highbury corner just after 5, couldn't resist a DAS, hai!

Hey. ThInk I did hear you shout that - would have been difficult! using both bikes in a photoshoot. Cars give you loads of room when you're ghost-biking.

  • A̶m̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶a̶w̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶a̶ ̶c̶y̶c̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶p̶a̶i̶g̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶h̶r̶e̶a̶d̶.̶ Schick has started one since I began typing. My point was about campaigning in general, we are a very active, vocal bunch of people. There are some members involved in cycling campaigning, I am just surprised that there are not more involved.

Stonehedge, I do agree that cyclists could improve some of their behaviours too, and see that things like education can make a significant contribution. Its just that despite my cynicism I do hope that there are things we can do to help improve the situation.

Things like the vigil have a mixed message, there were some people blatantly involved in their own political campaigns in attendance.

The vigils are not the only way to help, there are plenty of other ways to get involved - local campaigning groups, marshalling skyrides etc, for me it is about trying to get more people on the roads safely. Lfgss has been a huge part in the recent growth of cycling in the capital, I would suggest it has contributed to the resurgence in a huge way.

  • Am not aware of a cycling campaigning thread.

    Oh, James ... :)

  • Yep. Noted. But where did Stonehedge put his from last night?

  • Do you mean his post? It's still there.

  • Yeah I know but he said he'd copy it somewhere appropriate. Don't worry. Once your new thread gains momentum all this will be irrelevant. I feel an arse for posting my bit on here now.

Haha I would have been impressed if you'd tried to skid whilst ghost-biking! (I can't even skid normally..)

  • Sorry, haven't copied it yet...had to pack to get away today. Just sitting on train to Ipswich.

  • Spotted what looked like the Rapha office in The Abbey pub in Kentish Town enjoying lunch. Good choice.

  • Tibbs outside his flat! Das!

  • Spotted...Dom from UCW

Spotted: Dom from UCW most days as he works in my building. Didn't realise you guys knew each other.
