Two new threads need starting;
"Get a room - for a date and/or fight"
and also
"Ay Bobby, what is the German for 'do a skid'?" -
• #34583
[QUOTE=Oliver Schick;2006065]I have no idea what the German word for 'skid' is, or which verb one would use. At any rate, you'd use the indefinite article.
where i'm from in germany you'd just say "skidden" as a verb for doing a skid..

Why shudder? If one language doesn't have enough words it borrows from one that does.

According to mr clever pun we were in the presence of Mr Coppithat at the royal albert in deptford tonight but we didn't get the chance to converse.
hello anyways. I was the chap with the shaved head and beard at the table of cyclists you were sitting next to.

so who the hell shouted at me around 1pm today?
-
• #34597
I'll be (attempting to) ride from Waterloo Station to Liverpool Street Station tomorrow afternoon (probably around 6pm)... first time riding in London, so if you see a lost/confused/silly-looking person on a red Schwinn, that's probably me.

Why shudder? If one language doesn't have enough words it borrows from one that does.
Because not enough effort has been made to express it in German. There's very rarely a compelling reason for loan words, especially today. Every time a pointless loan word is adopted, a language loses a potential word.
I'm sure there's a good way of expressing this idea in German.
