No complaints on your riding, but your signalling consisting of pointing at your shoes probably falls a bit on the excessively subtle side.

When people do that I automatically look for a non-existent pothole or other obstacle.

oh alright, its not as direct but much nicer and cuts out Clapham altogether.
From Clapham Norf.
bedford rd, clapham park rd, abbeyville rd, cavendish rd, fernlea rd.
I pop out at Balham station, but you can also cut across Tooting Bec Common - Vee and Jay know what route better than me.

I only generally use it when going South though, I just ride get over it on the ride North.

if you want to further avoid tooting altogether to get to mitcham there's even more secretness.

I always found that from Oval-Balham it was often quicker to go Brixton Road>Brixton Hill>New Park Road>Emmanual Road>Fernlea Road>Balham Station than try and get through Clapham at 6pm.

why on earth would you want to go to Mitcham?

well, by mitcham, i mean the hospital. i've had to go to st george's a couple of times and it made my day to find out i didn't have to go all the way through tooting.
