• I doubt you could be offended ! :)

I have a pink rim on one of my wheels and I painted my brake lever and calipers white, when I did it I genuinely thought I was doing it because I thought they looked nice in that colour, better than the silver that they were out of the box, but thanks to your insights I now realise I was shouting 'look at me, look at me'.

And for that I thank you for the education.

If I ever manage to reduce my interaction with the world to the correct and approved utilitarian moves we should go out for a (non-frivolous) drink together.

:)

• roxy I've been asked to write up a bike route to see all the tourist sites of London (or a bunch of em). Mike and I decided to make a day out of it and go for a ride. Got down to Borough market and was taking a picture there (part of the article).
First this mini cooper pulls up, slowly and politely through the crowd. The driver stops next to us, rolls down the window and compliments us on our bikes. He drives off and I say to Mike "Wasn't that Paul Smith?". Just then this blue Mercedes Vito Van comes through the saturday crowd laying on it's horn. I'm fumbling with my bike one foot clipped in (my first day riding Atacs and cleats) and my camera and bag all confused on me. I'm trying to get out of the way but dude is busy yelling at Mike to get out of his way. The guy hits my back wheel and heel meanwhile on the other side he scratches the side of his van on Mike's handlebars (which Mike couldn't possibly move in time and accidently allowed the man to scratch the entire side of his van, darnnit).
Loads of bystanders are asking if I'm alright and Mike follows the guy to erm, get his details.
Anyway, I start walking to get out of there and in front of me is the Paul Smith shop. Sir Smith comes out and wants to talk more bike and I say my back wheel just got hit. He ends up massaging my ankle for me and generally looking after me while entertaining japanese tourists asking to take photos with him.
He even excused the fact that he was driving, saying he had to drop off a bunch of stuff at the shop!

The registration of said driver is LYO5 ORO, by the way....

Also spotted someone on an oldish (though not vintage) black Condor managing to almost get himself hit by a taxi on Endell St around 5 or so today...

Cracking story, what a nice bloke.

Are your wheel and heel okay?

no, no, no.

you exaggerate upon my comments.

I can't get the DVLA lookup to spit out any details. :(

Did you have words with the driver? Did you report the incident? Did you knock their mirrors off and steal their pheasant pies?

• I don't think it is an exaggeration, perhaps I have misunderstood what it is you are saying, I am going on what was said here:

RPM but the bikes in question are obviously put together to draw comment

RPM it's not just a bloke and his kid out on bikes really is it, it's someone who made a dedicated decision to build something that would get attention

• But I said nothing about your pink wheel or powdercoated white bits.

you can stop arguing with me now, if you like. I'm bored.

• RPM But I said nothing about your pink wheel or powdercoated white bits.

The sentiment is there.

This bloke likes the look of Aerospoke wheels. I like the look of white bike parts, I painted my rim pink because I liked the colour.

If you think his intention is to draw comment and get attention, your aestho-thropic views could equally be leveled at me (and I suspect just about everyone).

Anyhow, no big problem, we will have to disagree here.

• it's up to the individual to do what they will, with their appearance and possessions, but to expect to do so without comment from others is naive, don't you agree?

for example, you made comment on my tattoos.

that's free speech.

• tynan
hassanr +1
he came into the shop i work at today (recognised the bike immediately) but he was actually quite a nice bloke. none of that hipster aloofness (also didn't even remotely look like one). very friendly. just out and about riding around. those arrospok's arent from blb, and the 'crack' looked more like some road gunk stuck to the rim. oh, and the kid's a boy.

I thought the kid was a girl ? about 10-12 with a helmet on ?? Might have been a different kid I ?
errr, don't remember helmet, but def same bike. little guy, shortish hair, blue sweatpants? owell, doesn't matter.

Of course, what has this got to do with anything ?

I am disagreeing with the content of the comment not with the process of commenting.

Maybe the father and girl were a different pair ? I was at Condor around 4(ish) - didn't see what they were riding, so maybe I am mixing them up.

• tynan

what has this got to do with anything ?

cut and paste this folks, for use when tynan starts to argue the toss about anything and everything!

Good night Vienna.

Appeal to the crowd. Laughable.

Not really - but then I'm the kind of prole that encourages genocide, init.

• . .

• that's a bit personal, tynan

maybe if you want to insult me you'd like to meet in person.

I really don't like the green hat

remember the tears of a clown...

Calm down young man ! It was a joke based on Wayne's post.

If you are genuinely hurt/upset just say so and I will remove the picture.

There really is no need to attempt to scare me with implicit threats of violence.

You need to go grab yourself a cup of tea and perhaps have a wank ;P

• MrSmith i keep thinking of a max power motor driven by a blue and white synthentic fabric dressed chav.

to me those bikes are no different than this:

+1.

Great story Roxy. I have a begrudging admiration of Paul Smith - he may fuck up things that I like sometimes (bikes, cycling & snowboarding clothes) but at least he likes them too. I am completely indifferent to people like Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford because nothing they do resonates with me.

why don't you post a picture of yourself for everyone to photoshop?

or maybe you could have a wank? you're certainly cut out for it.

• RPM why don't you post a picture of yourself for everyone to photoshop?

Do you want me to remove the image, yes or no ?

• ihatelaw Spotted, outside Condor this afternoon. Aforementioned white London langster with front and rear brakes and dual white aerospokes :( note his kid's fixie parked in front of it.

I saw these guys outside condor today and they seemed very friendly... even said that I had a nice bike.

now that IS funny.
