Yes, Mihara, not all women feel the same about getting attention based on their looks. I didn't say that men shouldn't talk to or think that women on bikes are pretty, that would be silly.
Likewise, I'm not saying that you shouldn't talk to people, regardless of their gender, while your out riding (having said that I would prefer not to be approached before I've had my coffee, unless you like to be answered in grunts and gestures).
I know that you are new to the forum and may not realize that, although you are completely comfortable with that kind of attention, many other female forumgers aren't impressed and some really don't like it.
It has been a repeated request by myself and other female riders to be treated more like riders than like females, a big part of this is by mentioning when you see female riders (just like when you see male riders) without making a big deal out of their appearence. As myself and others have expressed before, even if you don't understand it, even if you do understand it but you personally feel differently, please respect the way that other people feel. It's great that you all are seeing so many women riding, let's focus on the amount of totally awesome women there are out there on bikes and not on how hot they are. We all know that they are, anyways :-)
Fine to be treated as a rider on the track or when competing, I whole heartedly agree. But this thread is ‘spotted’. It’s mostly identifying people/bikes that people have seen out and about. And unless you think it’s going to help some crazed cycling rapists pin point exactly where their next victim is I don’t see the problem. Opposites attract! (…but not in my case). Can I not say a lily is beautiful for fear of upsetting a dandelion?
I do respect other people’s view. I think people generally know when people don’t want to reciprocate in a conversation. Respect is about not crossing that boundary. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Not all men are thigh hungry wolves that froth at the mouth when they see some woman’s bottom bouncing up and down on a saddle, some just like a chat. Seems like most of the guys on this forum would rather eye up the saddle!‘’new to the forum’’
I was wondering when this would come up. Yes and maybe I don’t realise the hierarchy that’s in place here. Sorry to have dared to venture an option contrary to ‘most’ other women cyclists in the world.anyway, sorry to all for having a debate in the middle of the thread. i'll keep quiet from now on!

Hello! Where were you?
I was regretting having changed to a smaller gear for that stretch.
What was your GI before?! I couldn't catch-up to say hi on 70.2"! I was (briefly) next to you on the blue/orange/yellow merckx at the junction of Kennington Road & Kennington Lane when the lights changed green.

I think you missed nearly all of my points.
I don't think that because I was spotted as being an attractive female on a bike I'm about to be raped.
I don't think that by telling one girl on here that she is pretty that it is upsetting all the ones on here that aren't.
I didn't say that you were new to try and intimidate you or to put you in your place, I said it to inform you that this is a long time debate between the some of the men and women on this forum, in case you were wondering about some of the comments. I was not chastising you for having a different opinion, I was asking you to respect the opinions of others. I know that other women on here hold a more simular view to yours, but they seem to respect the fact that other women don't want to be commented on in this way.
I know that many women don't feel that comfortable on the forum, and no longer post here. I've said it before, cycling is a sausage fest, it would be nice to have one aspect of it that isn't trying to slam this fact in my face constantly. For some, there is a difference between spotting someone, and spotting someone and saying that they were a hot chik. This is a spotted thread, your right, but just like when we are at drinks, or on a ride, or anywhere else in society, let's try and treat each other more equally.

I was running 49/15 which gets up to a decent speed down that stretch, however I have swapped to 50/18 to see if I can make both Achilles tendons the same size again.
I shall say hello next time.

Where is this sausage fest you speak of Nhatt? Anywhere near Chiswick?
All this talk of sausages is making me very hungry. -
• #18333
Me too actually! I was thinking of having the left over bangers and mash from last night, but they seem to have gone to work in someone else's belly... Meh.
Cereal it is.

Can I have a go on your new bike next week Nhatttttttttaaatttack?
-
• #18335
I don't know if I'll be riding it next week! it's my cross only bike, but if you don't mind a bit of mud I'll ride it up.
-
• #18336
I like lots of mud. In fact prefer it to road juice.

Respect is about not crossing that boundary. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Isn't that a contradiction?
I tend to agree with Nhatt on this, not every girl on a bike hopes to do some flirting on the way to work. Whilst I agree that the guys on here tend to be fairly restrained on the whole, there is a double standard. How often has a girl ever dared post up spotting a good-looking bloke here, let alone without mentioning anything about the bike at all?

I saw a guy yesterday evening in the City riding a beautiful red Da Rosa (dark blue cycling jersey and brown "combaty" shorts). Anybody from here or just another banker coming back home after the whole day of ruining the economy?
-
• #18340
good-looking bloke
There's your problem right there...

• #18341
Spotted a smokin'-hot geezer on a Raleigh Lizard, Hackney Road. Shouted a lewd 'WOOAAAHHH!'.
-
• #18342
Srsly though, there is a Lizard chained up in Printing House Yard.

Some dude on an IRO heading South thru Hornsey last night about 8ish.
Alby on Hornsey Rise, thank you sir, I needed that little rest.
Some stupid girl (contraversial I know) overtaking me going down Hornsey rise on her geared city bike, only to slam on her brakes and turn left in front of me! I thought it was only cars that did that.

spotted:
a bunch of ugly people riding shit bikes, badly.
all over london. -

I was pretty hot until it started raining gently, then I was pleasantly warm- does that count?

spotted:
a bunch of ugly people riding shit bikes, badly.
all over london. This is the way forward, all spottings should now be accompanied by points out for 10 for rider attractiveness. Forumenger with the most points at the end of the year wins a bunk-up with Tynan.

I'mMost of the boys on here are scared by women, go easy onmethem, givemethem an outlet. -
• #18349
is anyone else sick of the fucking debate on this crap?
i don't mean any offence to anyone, but it is all getting a bit tiresome.
i am not biased to either side of the argument, because i understand both sides.
can we all please stop posting anything at all to do with how a woman looks when she is spotted. -
• #18350
Well said, toots...
