Arse biscuits - I'm in Paris this weekend with the gf (to celebrate her end of term exams) so will have to miss out on this now (thought the Paris trip was the weekend after).
I hope you all have an excellent day.

Hello to all, by the way. This is my first post, but I've been lurking on here for a while, picking up info before buying my first fixie a few weeks ago (a Giant Bowery coz it fitted my 6'7" lankyness better than anything else I tried). This is a great site, and cheers for all the help you unknowingly gave me!
I did my track induction at HH last Saturday morning and met a few of you guys who were there doing the same. I was planning on joining you on Sunday, but it's not looking good eh?

If it goes ahead, will the first hour or so be more inductions? I have a potential rendez-vous that might make it difficult to get there for 1pm. I'm already inducted.

I am going to suffolk. :( Hope you all have a lovely day!
I might join suffolk CTC's ride from Ipswich out to Butley, fixed. :) -

That is not looking good at all!
Not even a little bit of sunshine -

This is a good question! I have to decide (weather permitting of course) on doing the induction Saturday or Sunday (if possible). I'm going to bring my girl friend along to do the induction as well. Quite excited.

if it rains sun maybe we could all bring along polo stuff and try a game of polo in the infield of the track. maybe even try and get some of the herne hill polo bikes out for a quick razz ! a few people have said they fancy polo on a larger field / grassy knolls the track is closed if it is wet so we should find some other things to do

GiraffeBoy! Good forum name, it suits you. I was just behind on the first few induction laps, and heard that nice pedal strike you had on the banking.
It was s'posed to be p-ing down last Saturday, and then it didn't so may be we'll get lucky again. Still a few days to go, keep your fingers crossed.

it would make sense to do an induction at the start, so everyone can take part, no? i can't make it there on sat as well as sunday...
-
• #388
Yes, but then again, this has been advertised for months, during which time HH has been running inductions every Saturday, plus some weekdays.
It's going to take a while, so I'll ask again, what time do the previously-inducted need to turn up by?
-
• #389
yeah i thought inductions had to be done so we can kick-off proper at 1300 hours. BMMF - reckon you can turn up later as you know you are gonna catch us up ;)

woohoo, coming now as friends BBQ has been postponed. fatboys get ready for some ass-whipping!

get ready for some ass-whipping!
won't be time for that dogs, we got some racing to do - woot woot!
-
• #392
those of you who haven't been inducted must go and do so on saturday!
otherwise you'll be relegated to the stands during racing.
all academic I know, given the probability of rain.
however, I plan to be there on saturday to refresh my track knowledge and see how crap my bike performs on the dromage

I've got to pick up a second-hand Pompino for Faith at 11am, but I should still be able to get down there for 1pm if it's not raining.
I'm rubbish on the 'drome because i) it's not a hill ii) it's my off-season iii) I can only spin for 20 seconds and then only if the bike's stationary.
I will be requiring at least a 200m headstart on all events, including the flying 200m.

Nice to be remembered, if only for a schoolboy error! Forecast for Sunday is now looking a bit better. If it's dry, I'll be there. I joined in the novice racing last night for the first time - it was cool, but there were only a handful of us so Sunday should be fun...

I'm going to do my induction sat am to join in sunday (both weather permitting) so will look out for anyone else heading down saturday.
-
• #396
see you there on saturday then.
I'll be there first thing, messing about with my handlebars and rear wheel and swearing

+1 Probably reckon 15-20mins of fiddling and cursing before mine's ready.
I was speaking to Hippy about this and thought I might throw this one in- does VCL require a lockring to be fitted for HH? I want to use the 15T I've got screwed on the freewheel side (tight as I can get it) instead of dicking about removing the fixed-side 17T.

**Rear Sprockets: **Because the rear sprocket is also used to help you stop (by the rider putting backward pressure on the pedals), some riders use what is known as a lock ring. I asked Bryan Taylor what the pros and cons were. He says "lock rings aren't compulsory (or if they are, no one checks), though according to my other half they used to be compulsory for sprogs (thats Bryan's description of all young riders!). There are two views on them, and even experienced riders are fairly divided over which is best.

yeah, cos i have time to go to HH twice in one weekend.
it's just daft not to run a quick induction first, how long does it take, FFS?

stop whining, it's been planned well in advance.
Did Wayno mention he's in Italy? Following the Giro? ;-)
(jealous, me?)
