• crash no idiot when rides a bike fixed punching front brake!

  • learn to ride a fixed bike properly and not hit front brake!

its not fixed. i ride singlespeed. i have a back brake, just didnt apply enough pressure. shit happens fast.

lol @ all the helmet-thread haters and htfu trolls.

Hang on a minute - you tried to stop with a back brake?

My advice is to go to a park, pracitise emergency stop on grass, but making sure you didn´t skid (at least not much).

gave my girlfriend the same advice, she managed to successfully do an emergency stop very well now.

  • Hang on a minute - you tried to stop with a back brake?

I'm guessing both on reading the first post...

a little too much pressure on the front

Let's give the man a brake(sic). Someone steps out, little time to react...all goes tits up.

It happens. It doesn't mean he was in the wrong or needs to re-do his cycle proficiency training.

Main thing is he's ok and he didn't take out the Ped.

  • It doesn't mean he has to lecture about helmets.

    Amended.

  • I was just trying to be nice....sigh
Obviously I'm no good at it. To be fair, it is the first time I've tried.

    Right let normal service resume...

  • I don't think i'd be as inept to go over my handle bars, it is a novel way to reduce stopping distance though.

I used to until a week a ago ride without a helmet but my girlf / normal people were quite disturbed by this. I still wouldn't wear one outside London but in the smoke anything can happen.

  • you wouldn't wear one outside london?

Quite right, you'd be foolish to. No one ever got hit by a speeding car outside the m25, and anyway, cars go much faster in london than out in the country, everyone knows that.

My gist was that you're more likely to be in an accident in London.

  • This is how I, how do you kids say it...Roll!

If I'm going down, I'm taking the Ped with me.

that's from Conan the Barbarian!! Brilliant.

  • My gist was that you're more likely to be in an accident in London.

You can have an accident anywhere, and time. It just takes one person driving like a dick. I find that in London drivers are more used to bikes that out in the country and therefore give you a bit more room.

  • I don't think i'd be as inept to go over my handle bars,

I did it just the other week, when a cyclist turned at the last minute right into my path. Was quite fun in a masochistic kind of way :)

So stop being so conservative. And there's no need to labour the point. We can all accept liberal view points around here.

  • That's very democratic of you to say so.

I like to help out where I republican.

  • learn to ride a fixed bike properly and not hit front brake!

Says the person who crashed on the way to Oxford.. and what was this about a cab??

  • crash no idiot when rides a bike fixed punching front brake!

Proof that Yoda does indeed take acieed:)

  • Having seen and heard of plenty of people 'over front braking' during my illustrious career on the bikes I'd have to give one piece of advice:

Always keep the front brake slightly looser than the rear brake...

In an emergency on 2 braked bikes your not gonna be quick enough (generally) to tapper the front less than the rear. Head says "f*ck, stop, so hands automatically reach and squeeze.

BTW my fixed had a front, and that is loose as hell. Thank the lord cos otherwise I woulda been straight over the top this arvo on Victoria.

In respect to helmets, I say nothing.

  • Always keep the front brake slightly looser than the rear brake...

Good advice.. never thought of that.

In respect to helmets, I say nothing.

I only mentioned the helmet as i landed on my head, and because of the lid, didnt break my face. Thought i should big it up a little. Couldnt give a fuck about whether anyone else uses one though, didnt even know it was in debate.

1+ there´s fewer cars in the country roads, but none of them will expect to see a cyclists on the road.

  • My gist was that you're more likely to be in an accident in London.

well, that's ok then. well worth the risk.

  • 1+ there´s fewer cars in the country roads, but none of them will expect to see a cyclists on the road.

also, the cars on country roads are invariably driving at 80 mph and don't like to slow down if they can possibly help it.

  • also, the cars on country roads are invariably driving at 80 mph and don't like to slow down if they can possibly help it.

ahh especially in place like the lake district, the narrow road with cars bombing down at 40-50mph is fucking scary sometime, even more scarier when they could easily have a collision with another car coming the other direction that was hard to tell with the tall hedge and sharp corner.

  • also, the cars on country roads are invariably driving at 80 mph by drunken inbreds on ketamine and don't like to slow down if they can possibly help it.

    Fixed.

  • I only mentioned the helmet as i landed on my head, and because of the lid, didnt break my face. Thought i should big it up a little. Couldnt give a fuck about whether anyone else uses one though, didnt even know it was in debate.

I only say nothing because I'm still going through rehab 5 years on from having a bike crash on the rodie WITH A HELMET ON. I've catagorically been told by the surgeon that the helmet did me no good.

So now having had a trepanation (hole drilled into skull to relieve pressure), and therefore a weaker skull I actively choose not to wear one.

Having said that I don't want to say anything. Yagetmeblud

  • Shame you weren't able to use the ped as a soft landing :-)

Did she say anything/help at all?
