details of all bicycle helmet standards^^
I would personally never spend more than £30 on a helmet, small knocks, wear & tear as well as aging of the materials can compromise function.
I think your pretty safe with all certified helmets as long as they fit well, the fancier ones are often priced higher for compactness, weight, ventialtion, style etc.

Truth is, the helmets not gonna stop you getting knocked out or getting concussion which are the most common head injuries in cycling accidents. These are just a result of the trauma involved, making the brain bounce around in its box. What it will stop is a skull fracture if it hits a blunt object (car, road, lamp post...) and your head absorbs all the energy before it gets dissipated by somet else. This is quite unlikely in most accidents cos your hands, arms, legs, elbows and just about everything else is instinctively thrown in front of your head. But thats not all the time. So I say hedge your bets cos brain bleeds/ sub dural haematomas aren't fun!
But im lucky cos i look too much of a dick anyway to worry about it all being spoiled by a helmet. -

I was told that a £100 helmet will perform the same as a £25 helmet but will come in a range of sizes, have more venting (needs more reinforcement such as carbon fibre structure) and will be lighter in weight.
I bought a £25 helmet but because I have a small head I want to get a more expensive helmet which fits my head better and doesn't make me look like as much of a cock.

If you do 2 miles on the flat, and noone sees you, then a 12.99 skid lid from halfrauds will be as good as anything. But any miles you'll desperately want good ventilation. Weight has an impact on comfort, so even if it feels ace in the shop, after a while it will start to dig into your bonce. I think the most competitive price bracket is between 30 and 50, they seem to be gettin nice and light and lookin good.

Giro's are good helmets for the price, light and well vented, plus come highly reccomended, and I have one!

Wanted to share this with you lot. And particularly you mans dem who roll sans helmet.
Last night coming home from work I was just coming round the corner of Buckingham Palace to go up the Mall to Trafalgar Square. The lighting round there is all moddy/classy so no real use to anyone. Anyway, some dizzy bitch steps out right into my path and I jam on my brakes.. a little too much pressure on the front and I'm straight over the handlebars. Impact was shared between my head and wrists. There was no choice, it all happened pretty quick.
Anyway.. point is, my wrists are all fucked up n sore but my head is totally fine. Not even a small bruise. My helmet though, mate.. its wasted. All cracked up n dead as fuck. Had it not been on my head when this happened, my poor head would surely be in a sorry sorry state right about now.
Made me really really REALLY glad i wear a helmet. Now the ride home is dark, this kind of shit is sure to happen more and more.

You should have done a 'hockey-stop' skid and taken her legs out.
...next time, dont let go of the bars. Let your helmet absorb the impact. -

I would of seen her coming, jumped off bike -ghost running next to it- while simultaneously removing helmets( upstairs and downstairs) caving her head in with both, jumped back on bike and peddled about my business.
Stop giving us a bad name.....HTFU.

I think all cyclists should stop at red lights. It is the law, you know.
And if you don't, it's all bad 'n' shit. -
