I have a Bell, BMX style (with Kagy stickers, oooh) - it was the cheapest in Condor by a mile, about £15, I think. I'm sure it's not super strong, but it makes my head look about the size of the moon so more people see me and get out of the way, making me less likely to hit them and die.

those skate lids will bake your head
just get over the vanity and get a proper lid. worrying about how you look wearing it is pointless as the general public think all cyclists look like tossers. -

I've got a Specialized S-Works 2D.
Wouldn't ride without it, and it's so light I don't notice it anyway. -

They all look a bit crap, esp with a big head.
also +1 to spending a bit more to get plenty of ventilation.I have a Met Kaos. Helps to keep up my mountain biker/hipster mash up look.

I have a Bell something or other? Halfrauds 30 quid 3 years ago, didn't have much choice as it was the only one that comfortably fitted my odd shaped head. Tried a skaters helmet but even the largest size was too small. On the odd occasion I ride without a helmet but feel very vunerable, they are an inconvenient nessessity I think in London. Or maybe I am just kidding myself that they will actually do me any good in an accident? Hopefully I don't get the chance to find out!

31 posts into a helmet thread, and not one bell-end joke - impressive!

Hmmm..... not looked at it from another road users point of view....
"A recent study in England has indicated that automobile drivers drive more dangerously near bicycle drivers who wear helmets than near those without helmets. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/5334208.stm Another observation in the study is that car drivers give long haired girls more leeway than other bicycle drivers."

sure, but it's mostly the drivers who don't see you that you have to worry about.

I find that weaving about in the middle of the road wearing a long haired wig tends to get you noticed ..toddle pip ..gotta go play in the traffic

i have 2 lids (for the push bike anyway) a giro switch blade full face for racing and a piss pot for looking like a fool. the switch blade was a fantastic lid you can remove the chin peice to make it look like a normal lid.
normally i ride with a bandana and thats it though having split a lid in two.
i also have 2 motorbike helmets which obviously i wear on a regular basis.

I wear a Giro Ionos. Only needed to once but I'm bloody glad that I was wearing it then. If it were not for my helmet I would be a veggie with the intellectual capabilities of the dumb fuckwit pedestrian who stepped out in front of me the week before last.
The Giro ionos is a brilliant if very expensive helmet. Worth every one of the £129 I paid for it.
I cannot recommend the wearing of helmets strongly enough. Please do. You have nothing to lose by wearing one and plenty to lose by not.

When someone walks out infront of you
Stand up in the pedals and hit them with your shoulder
Like boxer you use your shoulder to protect your head
If you do it right you don't even need to stop pedalling!
I am not completed opposed to wearing helmet mind
I am just saying
I have a Lazer Big magma. Its really big, and does nothing to tone down my large head which makes me find excuses not to wear it.
Apparently helmets which have points, i.e. which aren't continuous across the whole helmet make it less easy for it to slide on the ground which puts pressure on the neck. fact. more or less.
