what about those old school cycle helmets, the ones with like 5 strips of foam, lengthways on the head, held together by leather/nylon strapping, you know what I mean? Do they still make them anymore?
They do 5/8ths of fuck all in a crash. Pointless.

Well I've been hunting for a helmet too, can't stand riding without one. I've been brought up to always wear a helmet from when I was a little kid with training wheels, but can't seem to find a decent one to fit my huge knoggin. Any good shops in the city that have a nice big range in store?

bear in mind that pretty much all helmets are made from the same materials and they all conform to BS standards and they all have the same manufacture, packaging and distribution costs yet some cost £20 and some cost £120, it appears that with the more expensive ones, you're paying for a larger number of holes....
My last two helmets have been Mets, they fit my huge head well and both have been road / off road hybrid type helmets....they have a clip on peak, but remove it and hey-presto it's a road helmet.
Always get last year's model there will be bugger-all difference except for it will be about 40% cheaper.

@JDB....Met do a super-size helmet, can't remember what it's called, my head comes in just below that size.....

What does everyone use? I've not worn one in months, however, following a small accident, I've decided to wear one again.
I prefer BMX styles ones but you sweat like a prisoner on death row. Regular ones breathe but look all futuristic and strange.
Are there other helmet-phobes out there?

I wear a specialized helmet
hope I don't have to use it though -

helmet when commuting. Something by specialised I think, not quite sure. The catlike whisper helmets are pretty highly rated, though I think they look odd

Got my road one in Decathlon, good sizing and was under £30. The AG2R in the protour use them, so I think the protection is up to spec also-

It's not do you or don't you, Mary Chain wants some advice on what is good if you decide you want one.
My tuppence; spend as much as you can, they get cooler looking, smaller and more ventilated the more you spend. I like the top of the line Specialized 2D, it costs a bomb but I've crashed wearing one, it worked really well and it is the coolest (temperature) helmet that I've ever worn.
I think that a BMX helmet would be really warm, too much for me.

Gonna pick one up to keep my lady happy...yeah that lid with a bit of a visor looks quite nice. How warm will it be though?
After reading here about crash after crash i reckon helmet is not much of an option anymore. I´ve got a shit specialized now, cheapest evans had. My reasoning is it-will-look-shit-so-i-can-just-as-well-look-shit-on-the-cheap
time for a change perhaps

where can you get those old school STP helmets from the Herbie (Volks Wagon) movies?
i've always been giro's but recently bought the specialized 2D - fits my noggin better, light as hell and the vents are considerably more effective - still look like a bellend tho'
