tallsam I'm not saying you are in a "scene" but then no-one thinks they are in a scene do they? Scenes exist almost exclusively in the eyes of other ppl (who consider themselves outside of that scene) and (imo) some ppl would see you a part of this "scene".
Well, quite. From a homophonic/aurally ambiguous perspective, 'scene' is the passive or the past participle of "to see" and so is not in the eye of the first person. Reminds me of the old slogan "Scene But Not Herd".
NO SLOGO :)

Hmmm touch a nerve???
I think a couple of people have kinda read more into this than they should, the comment:
'it's just a bike with one gear not a license to cover your bike with silly 'one relly nice speed' stickers, beer cap stem caps, whiskey flask bottle cages etc'
I'm talking about a small one line comment to write on probably the chainstay in about 12pt text that 99% of people will never see and the other 1% will smile at. IF I wanted plain with no thought process I would have bought a langster or similar, I didn't I built something a little different and built it my way with what I had, and that is how I'll finish it, painting in colours I like with a small throw away comment on it that I want. I'm not trying to be part of any scene (hell I don't think I've met anyone else who rides fixed and have one friend with a SS mountainbike).
I know feel I'm defending myself for something I see no wrong in...
I need a beer!

My bike had a chainstay protector saying http://www.fujibikes.com so I took it off and underneath is a slogan.
"Fuji Bikes. Simply Better"
It's the shittest thing I'e ever seen/heard. I'd get he bike sprayed but to be honest I think I'm just going to buy a new bike when I feel I want more from thte Fuji. After a fitting from cyclefit which, having read about it, sounds amazing.

MrSmith it's the same reason SS mtb'ing is seen as a bit odd.
it's just a bike with one gear not a license to cover your bike with silly 'one relly nice speed' stickers, beer cap stem caps, whiskey flask bottle cages etcSS'ing started out as a bunch of mtb'ers who wanted to ride around without kitting up in lycra, without calorie counting, without the roadie-esque clique thing.
It grew. Then SS'ers started spending just as much on their machines as the 'serious' gearies they mocked in the first place. The originality was lost.My road bike has http://www.ribble.co.uk on it. Huzzah!

"My other bike has gears" so I stop being snubbed by the roadies. My roadie bike has enough damn decals, so no stickers for that one.

I'm just gonna repeat what I said. You've just repeated what I said but using more words.
