it's the same reason SS mtb'ing is seen as a bit odd.
it's just a bike with one gear not a license to cover your bike with silly 'one relly nice speed' stickers, beer cap stem caps, whiskey flask bottle cages etc -

MrSmith it's the same reason SS mtb'ing is seen as a bit odd.
it's just a bike with one gear not a license to cover your bike with silly 'one relly nice speed' stickers, beer cap stem caps, whiskey flask bottle cages etcToo true.
I mean I'm not against ppl doing whatever they want or expressing themselves. Just saying that things like this are the reason ppl in this "scene" are often ridiculed.

if your spending a lot of time as all of us on here seem to be doing, by finding frames, and sourcing specific individual bits, building a bike up which has little to do with the majority of the mass produced stuff out there, then you are going to have very individual bikes, from the frame to the paint scheme to the wheels, to the chain, to the front brake, or not as the case may be. If you put that much time and effort into making a bike, then you are going to have IMHO a different connection to that mechanical object. It is a piece of your imagination made flesh, and so different people express that imagination in different ways. For me my bike is going to be logo free, but my bags (custom made by Scott not Scot - rubbing hands together in over excited glee) will have some sort of slogan on them, possibly one of those above.
I'm not part of a "scene" ;-P I'm a part of a loose confederation of individuals who share the same love for two wheeled bicycles that I have, though they may express this affection in different visual ways, who come together on this forum and in person on rides, to offer support, friendship, information, and also a constructive critical view based on their time riding bikes.
If someone wants to put a sticker on their bike, so be it, if someone wants to spoke cards in so be it, if someone wants to wrap their frame in frame pads so be it. Its all part of the same design process that goes into deciding anodized cranks or not, yeah I read bike snob nyc and I laugh at his insights, share some of them, but people can do what the hell they want with their bike, might not be my cup of tea, but go for it.my own favourite slogans - not bike related
