Hello, I'm after some advice. I was wondering what you all thought I should have for my lunch. Should I go to Asda and get at OTP, or would a specialist sandwich shop better suit my needs (although I'm not sure what they are at this stage)?
Thx -

I would recommend Waitrose for an OTP, but always go for a custom build if you hae a good LSS in the area, though i would warn you that a one off build can be up to 50% more than an OTP of the Gregs/Asda variety

build you own - so much more rewarding than OTP

If you want to get out there and eat your sandwich 'right this second' then you can't beat an OTP. That's what I did. I've got a cheap OTP that I got from Tesco this morning. I just don't have the spare time to build one myself and I don't want to risk getting the sizes wrong and having to take back ham because it doesn't give me a good crust line. With an OTP you know what you're getting.
Some places will do you a custom sandwich for the price of an OTP from a big shop so if you know where to go you can get a great deal.

But I'm a complete newbie - I demand that you lot tell me exactly how to go about it...

If you build your own, be aware of different mustard standards, french and english are not interchangeable.

I know a great place in town that does some NOS sandwiches. You can't beat the original classics.
And are you thinking of going NoMayo? Most Daily Mail reactionary folk think it is dangerous, but if you keep concentration and go with the flow it can be really rewarding if a little risky.

Another thing - I hear that some of this Japanese food is considered pretty exotic. but is it cooler than a traditional English repast, say, roast beef with horseradish sauce?
-

i think a good set of bread slices are important.don't slack when it comes to the bread, you need it to last the duration of your lunch.

wasabi > horseradish sauce.
But make sure it is certified, otherwise you will be buying just because it is Japanese. -

This exactly why I need help. I mean, you say 'bread' but just look at the varieties that are out there: rye, wholemeal, bloomer, bagels, baps, muffins. Then there's french bread, ciabatta, wraps, tortillas, I've tried searching the forum to no avail...
I demand advice - my stomach is already rumbling... -

that kind of pushy attitude will not be taken kindly around here.i suggest you continue to search the forum and until you find some manners please refrain form posting.

I think a good German Rye bread is tough to beat.
Don't bother with butter, if your components are high quality, this is usually unnecessary IMHO.
Look at the knives and workspace that is being used to assemble your lunch - ask yourself "is this how I would do it?" if you don't know how you would do it then I think you need to keep searching. -

I'd always go for an old school brown bread, 'Brown is Down!', but you could also go for the more modern and lighter White, which gives a stiffer but less forgiving satisfaction.

I've got an old sandwich you can have for the right price. It's an old british warburton in classic white (although some brown at edges now) lots of quality kit, bottom layer could do with re-buttering but pretty much ready to eat.
I'm hoping to recoup what i spent on it.
PM me if you're interested.
yesterdays lunch,as seen this morning
