  • I think the two I saw were roadie types, had seen them doing laps.

  • what they should be doing is handing out tickets to tourists in suv's overtaking cyclists and other cars in that first bend after the steep hill. Lost count of the times zipped around that big tree that covers the line of sight just to see a big gray bulky car shaving off a few seconds up to the car park.

  • This actually happened to me. Silver Merc maybe? Silly sods.

  • I've had someone do that to me, given them a nice hand gesture as they came past in reply for they'd been beeping at me up the hill. He then proceeded to stop and proclaim to me what I'd done wrong while offering to take it even further outside.
    Silly people.

  • LOL Might avoid for a bit!

What can you do to a speeding cyclist?

There are also local bylaws and
regulations and several cyclists recently have been given fines in Richmond
Park for exceeding the speed limit of 20mph - apparently the police make
regular checks with speed guns to catch such offenders.

Oh and apparently here is the specific law relating to RP:

Can't get much more 'outside' than Richmond Park.

  • Whats the park likely to be like today? It worth riding to or are there too many tourists / po po.

  • What Strava segment is the 'official' one for one lap? There are hundreds of segments and I have no idea how to properly work out my time today, which will be shit because of all the sloooow caaars.

  • There's bloody hundreds. It's a nonsense.

  • Tour de RP is what I use. As long as you're consistent it doesn't matter.

That legislation bit says the limits 30mph?

  • That legislation bit says the limits 30mph?

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2004/1308/made?view=plain

    2004 Amendment:

“On the Park roads in Bushy Park, Greenwich Park, Hyde Park (except for the Serpentine Road), The Regent’s Park, and St James’s and The Green Parks, at a speed not exceeding 30 mph, and on the Park roads in Richmond Park, at a speed not exceeding 20 mph.”

  • yeah this should be the official 1lap segment. http://app.strava.com/segments/610040

the 3 lap challenge rarely works but every now and then i manage to hit this 3 lap segment that seems to be the only 3lap in there that registers. http://app.strava.com/segments/1492960

  • TdRP segment KoM is 15:11 (26.6mph) and the the 3 lap is 36:02 (33.5mph). 33.5mph is better than pro (?) for a 20 mile TT. Segment fail...

  • Cheers Erik! That makes yesterday's effort 59:23. With all the cars I'm happy with that.

  • you would be so lucky to beat a 3 lap pr out there right now. The amount of leisure riders and weekend warriors in richmond must have tripled since the tdf and the olympics.

strava fails at lapping. 95% of the time my 2 lap times registers as 3 laps. the top 20 is full of 13 mile rides rather than 21 : (

  • So how are you guys recording three laps if not with a segment then? I guess it's something to do with that lap button on the Garmin that I never press, except by accident, because I don't really know how it works?

  • I just add up 3 consecutive Tour de RP lap times.

  • Set garmin to use start point as lap. Press start at the roundabout, or wherever. Ride three laps. Revel in the numbery wonder of having your splits.

  • Hmm, I like that. But I start the Garmin at home and ride there. So can I ride in to the park, turn left and go a hundred yards, do a 180 and press lap as I pass the roundabout? Will that still work?

  • Depends on the lap settings, but if auto lap by position is on then yes.

  • This is the sort of thing that I imagine is going to be easy to do with my 705 (Cross bike) and conversely insanely difficult and frustrating with my 410 (road bike)

  • Sweet. I might go and do laps of the block tomorrow morning to see how it works. Got courses nailed last month, have been loving those. I think the 200 is great.

There's a good write up here.

However, nowhere is a bicycle defined as a vehicle for the purposes of many of these Acts, other than in the RTA.

It's an open point as to whether any tickets for speeding bicycles are valid or not.

  • And don't any of you lot just have a watch?
