  • Thanks, guys, I looked back at this too late and it isn't working now.

  • Just got back from RP (my first visit) - what an awesome place! As a Newcastle (NE) refugee, I didn't know it existed. Only found this thread when I got back.

I didn't do any full laps (but will next time) - had a great day, 25miles on SS MTB, 2.1" knobbly tyres, 69" gear (34x12 on 24"wheel) went CW from Roehampton Gate, but got tempted by some off-road action after passing 3 geared bikes on the sharp climb after R.Hood Gate. 3 x offroad 5 mile loops and then the rest of the road lap. Got lucky with an indicated 32mph top speed on the way out approaching the Police. Only saw 2 fixed pedallers.
Great place, next time I'll time a 3 lap run.

  • If you're on knobblys you may as well use the MTB trail around the whole perimeter.

  • I will next time (but only because you said!)
It was my first visit, so wasn't aware of, well anything.
    Knobblies+road= bigger quads!

  • I've gone 3 laps under an hour (just), clockwise whiuch is slightly longer than anti, AND I fell off on the south west corner roundabout. Couldnt do it now, just put a huge long haul trucker fork on my bike for carrying stuff.

Richmond is great fun at night you can turn your lights off and cut all the corners but watch out for deer

  • im just sorting out the final details of a ride to and around richmond park- will post details. could add in a race around the park as well as the bbq we are planning?

  • will there be a spokecard?

  • I've been round in a fast geared group - 4 laps in about 1.05

Chapeau. Plus 40k average is quick.

Best I have done is 59.30.

Did two laps last night in about 38 minutes, but couldn't face a third. I would have bonked.

  • Pretty easy in a group of half a dozen or so (2nd/3rd cats or whatever). Pales in comparison to Nick Hutchings's 46-something for 3 on his own (bearing in mind he's not a pro).

Anyway, it's more fun trying to hit 40mph in the sprint for the bridge (with helpful tailwind) :)

  • I managed a 18.00 lap yesterday, 22.3mph average. Quite pleased with that as the wind was pretty nasty on the Roehampton - Richmond gate side.
While I was on my warmup lap I did ride for a short while with a guy on a steel Pegoretti with a Grupetto bottle - my spies tell it that may have been Mr Smyth. That sir, is a very nice bike.

  • that was i. were you one of the 2 that passed me and then i tagged along until we all split up in traffic? only i passed most people apart from those 2
if you were the guy in front then chapeau
if you were the guy who ended up behind then like me you must try harder :-)

at the moment i'm not even bothering to time myself, an 18 lap is one thing, stringing 3 together is not so easy.

  • Yup that was me, I was on the Seven. I passed the other chap on the climb up from Kingston hill........don't think anyone passed me after that. Will say hello next time!

  • i'll get you next time you fucker.

  • Looking forward to it

  • Riding fixed 42:16, anti-clockwise
    Lap 1; 21 mins
    Lap 2; 21 mins
    Lap 3; 23 mins

    Total: 1hr:05mins

Crap. There were a lot of cars though...

  • heheheee - I thought for a minute that you'd done it fixed in a time of 42.16 there

  • heheheee - I thought for a minute that you'd done it fixed in a time of 42.16 there

Haha! How awesome would that be!?

  • Clockwise or anti-? Guess you were proper hurting on the final lap :)

  • You should aim for negative splits. Seriously, I'm kidding - great effort.

  • Clockwise or anti-? Guess you were proper hurting on the final lap :)

It's still my knee giving me agro! Shouldn't have done the third lap really, felt like it was gonna explode! Anti-clockwise...

  • Clockwise is definitely faster. Have another go. :-)

  • pfft anti-clockwise or nothing.

  • (I pick nothing!)

  • 6pt, probably in this thread somewhere, but what's your 3 lap time?

  • The sign on the gate said 1915 closing :)
Just had a go for the first time in ages, could tell from the second I got there that it was going to be a slow one - really unpleasantly windy on the north side (was going anti-clockwise).
Standing start, from Sheen Gate mini roundabout, which was an error because it meant I had to finish on one last chunk of bastard headwind, and lap 2 was compromised by a police car doing exactly 20 when I wanted to be doing a little more... Too many excuses. Blah.

    Total time 56:40
    Lap 1: 18:40
    Lap 2: 18:58
    Lap 3: 19:02
    Avg: 21.29mph

Last time I went. I've got a 54:xx lying around somewhere, imagine I could beat that. It was blowing an absolute gale for ^that one^
