I've been putting off getting the rusty bars on our windows blasted and powdercoated since we moved in six years ago. I'm gonna have to organise that very soon while the weather's cooler. It's such a pain in the balls, I can't put it off any longer.
And we're getting a veranda built onto the front of the house in the coming weeks. Seems like we're saving all the jobs up for one big hit. Fuck knows when we'll get a garage built, we've been fucked over by builders so many times. Price has doubled since our first quote in 2020, ugh.
But yeah, totally agree with you. I hate all of it.

Good luck, it all sounds daunting to me!
I need window frames replaced but £££ and the hard sell / high quote haggle approach that was the normal in the 90's means I can't bring myself to contact any fitter to go through that process. I don't think I've ever said that out loud.
The plumber I use was a lucky find in a time of crisis (boiler flooded) and the electrician is friend of friend.
There's building work needed but see Windows anxiety. I haven't got time or energy to fuck around playing the game within the system as it is.

Are the bars on the windows to make Aussies feel at home?

Lozzles. The irony is you don't need them here, I could've done with them when I lived in Brixton.

Password rules.
Be between 8 and 64 characters long
Not contain your username
A longer password is more secure, you can also use characters like: ! @ # & * _*C!fT@Hr3FF9r_0PLp
You can't use that password. Please choose another.

someone else probably uses it and they can't insert duplicates into the db
only half-joking.

I hate being immunocompromised.
Supposed to be going on holiday with family tomorrow, but niece has(had) chickenpox and apparently still has open sores on her arms (after 11 days!) and I can’t get a straight answer out of any of my family to help guide a decision.
I think what’s really upsetting me is it feels like no one appreciates how serious my medication is.
Not really the right thread, but had to get it off my chest.

With shit like this you have to be seriously blunt with people if not just shouty at them. Otherwise they'll assume it's not that serious or you're over exaggerating your condition.

They understand my condition is potentially not very nice, but when I’ve had conversations about contraindications of my medication, I get comments like “I’d take the leaflet inside the medication with a pinch of salt…”
I think I need to make peace with delaying my holiday by a few days or a week.

Which might do the trick re this ^^^

Preachers on public transport. If you want to stand in the street yelling this shit knock yourself out (though I feel for people working in businesses nearby) but don't get on a carriage in rush hour and start with that. I swear the guy this morning was throwing in a humble brag too by going on about how many women he'd slept with before finding Jesus.

Fuck that, I'd be getting real shouty.

Fuck this shit as well, I'd be telling them that this will be the last holiday I'll be spending with them unless they sort their shit out. It's not like you're lactose intolerant and are worried about someone putting milk in your tea.

Brake fluid. Horrible stuff. Hate the smell too.
-
• #25141
Bike or car?
Strangely, IME, many bike mechanics treat DOT fluid like it were a cartoon acid, while thinking mineral oil isn’t noxious at all. Mineral oil is a petroleum derivative, and unless it’s food grade it’s not exactly safe to ingest or be exposed to. (Even then, there’s minor debate about whether food grade mineral oil is actually non-reactive in the human body)

I always wondered how mineral oil can be sold as baby oil.

Bike or car?
Car. DOT 3 / DOT 4. Changed a couple of slave cylinders today and they fought me. The stuff went everywhere.

Been around since the 1930s, brought to you by the same company that knowingly sold (sells?) asbestos-laced talcum baby powder.
‘Mineral’ oil is another bs marketing spin, like ‘geofuels’.
Ask a doctor for alternatives. The internet suggests almond and olive oils.

I know what you mean. More when I spill the stuff on me.

Cunts that say 'if that makes sense?'
Ill tell you if I don't understand what you're saying you fucking throbber.

I am not sure I understand you, not sure if that makes sense?

Yeah, just venturing into this world now, hoping to get our kitchen done up.
First problem is Thames Water who want £75 to come and look (possibly even before the heat death of the universe) at our water meters (which they have no record of) to see if we can move them (now that we don't have immersion heater and cold water tank).
All diy. And booking in trades people.
