I got personal beef with lamaq, he played our record on his radio 1 show and then talked over the whole thing.
It was crap but so was the rest of his entire programmeCerys is good people and the kids used to like her show on Sundays.

Oh that’s a quality rant right there. Don’t wholly agree about 6 music in general. There’s things to like in there if you give Smashy and Nicey Lamacq a wide berth. He’s just phoning it in. Oh and Marie Anne Hobbes can >>>>>>>>>>. But it’s better than almost all the alternatives.

Radio 6, Shaun Keaveny isn’t as funny as he thinks he is, no one is as funny as he thinks he is.
-
• #14957
He’s been doing the same phone/text ins for 30 years.
‘Tell us your stories about the times you were standing behind someone tall at a gig.’ Etc.

• #14958
I am not a Shuan Keaveny fan.. Mark and Lard are worse tho.

Also pretty surprised Liz Kershaw still has a show. Like her but her music selection is dogshit IMO.

• #14960
Do you like her racist views?
-
• #14961
O, I didn't know she had any?

I recall she also went on Sky to talk about it. Dog whistle racism at its most blatant.

Fuck, that is just repulsive. We live within 2 miles of a popular landing beach, even the police show much more sympathy for the poor families who seek refuge in this imperfect country. That includes my next door neighbour who is a senior cop and sets the tone for junior officers.

Wow, wac.

• #14965
Yeah Liz gets a wide swerve. I'm not sure how she still has a job.

Her Twitter bio:

Baffling.

Copied from the coffee thread:
Finding reviewers who you actually trust/agree with. Youtube is flooded with reviewers who review products in the stupidest ways. So many tool reviews love to throw tools through pointless tests and extrapolate ridiculous outcomes from them - drives me up the wall. Particularly as people then just start to parrot the reviews as some sort of gospel, despite their lack of experience with them*.
*I may be slightly guilty of this last bit tbf.

I get you on this, all you really want to know is will this hammer do a good job of knocking some 80mm wood screws into a tiled wall.
-
• #14970
Ha, precisely! I know it works as a spanner, but what’s its hammering capacity?!
It’s more a case of not really giving a shit about destructive testing, or how many times it can do job X against the clock. It’s way more useful to know how the tool performs in its intended work environment. It could have the greatest motor in the world, but if its ergonomics are bad, you’ll hate using it etc.
But I suspect the whole reason you have these hobbyist testers setting up these tests is simply because it would take forever for them to actually accumulate sufficient time working with the tool to make an assessment compared to quick garage based experiments. That and head to head destructive testing is clearly better for YouTube views.Fuck me I sound like an old man.

Not sure this qualifies as hate, but the shittiness of dealing with NS&I really is quite something
I have a childhood post office savings account that i've been meaning to update and close for years. Doing some life admin during lockdown and I thought it would be a good idea to finally check in on it, so I took my little account book and went into the post office and queued up. They told me that NS&I had taken over these accounts years ago and gave me a phone number.
I rang that and a recorded message told me not to ring as they were too busy with covid 'n' that. Fair enough. I hung up and left it for a few months till after the first lockdown had ended. I tried again and finally through after being on hold for 45 mins.
They told me that they couldn't tell me anything about my account and that I'd need to fill in a form to change my address and apply for an online account. They said they'd post the paper forms for me to fill in with a pen and post back to them. They'd then write back to me with the details I needed to access my account online.
The forms arrived after about 8 weeks. I filled them in left them sitting on the side for at least another 8 weeks before getting round to buying envelopes and stamps and sending them back.
Another 8 weeks later I get a letter back from NSI saying they're very sorry but I can't access that particular kind of account online and I should a call the same number the post office gave me originally.I just rang that number and there's a recorded message telling me not to ring because of covid 'n' that, interspersed with stark warnings not to be abusive to their beleaguered staff and that waiting time is over an hour. Been on hold for 15 mins so far... shall I hang up?

Haha, they just answered and told me they can't tell me anything about the account over the phone, but if i like they can send me a letter with some information about it. Oh, and they'll send a form to fill in so I can register for an online account.

Kafkaesque!
-
• #14974
Innit.
I can't get too uppity tho as it's hardly urgent. This was a childhood savings account that was left with £50 in it in 1994. I'm deliberately not working out what the compound interest over the last 26 years might be as I don't want to ruin the fun. I suspect it'll be underwhelming but whatever it is, i'm going to spend it on something frivolous.

I do however hate that fact that I forgot to put the bin out this morning. They alternate weeks between recycling and landfill here. I just missed the landfill one. Our youngest isn't potty trained yet so that means i'me going to have to fish two weeks worth of black bags full of rotten food and toddler shit out a stinking wheelie bin and drive it to the tip. *boaks
Thanks, will check these out.
