No worries, I'm about to have a rhino stopping Pernod brand Pernod.
It's interesting to note that 'twat' has evolved to mean 'anyone who doesn't agree with me'.

Thanks for the explanation, so what the take away is:
that people go to a fair bit of effort to be dumb. -

I've been saying this on and off for nearly 30 years (jesus, I got my first job in a pub kitchen 30 years ago.)
In the kitchens I worked in that were open to the restaurant the code word was "Can you give this to Mike for me please."

Bike shops.
Every fucking shop I try manages to fuck up something simple and totally undermine my confidence in them (slight hyperbole, actually, there was a place near Crouch End that consistently did me right, but they've closed down now anyway).
Second to last place I took my bike switched out my chain and cassette without checking my chainring for wear, meaning when I tried to set off from a red light my chain slipped and I almost stacked it under a truck. Fuck going back there. Try somewhere new. New place’s “gold service” has left me with only 10 working gears out of 11. Money well spent!
Can anyone recommend a decent bike shop east of Stratford?

Perhaps the extra premium platinum service would have got you the 11th gear.

Madgett's of Diss. Train from Liverpool Street. Proper bike shop.

Lol, it’s even better: just took the bike for a little spin to see what else it had to say for itself and discovered that the front derailleur shifts down beautifully, but no longer shifts back up again. So I took in a 2 x 11 bike, and they upgraded it to a 1 x 10 for me. Lucky me.

Not to diss Diss, but that might be a touch too east for me

I’ve cycled past that place a bunch of times but weirdly it’s never stuck in my memory. Cheers for the suggestion, I’ll give them a shot when they reopen.

That’s why if you find someone good on the spanners you look after them and find out where they’ve gone if they leave.
I’ve had bad work done at shops which have a good reputation because the good mechanics they employed have left.
damo - are the corner shop boys open again?
i need some Russian Standard.
