brake cable probably done about 300 miles.
I am not a particularly gifted mechanic, but never had this happen before.
was merely trying to warn others, who thought the same as me that it wouldn't happen to them.
Which is fine but let's not get all scapegoaty about it. I rode single speed one brake for a good year and a half and never had a single problem because I checked my shit on a weekly basis. That'll be the experience of most riders - it's not an automatic stupid choice.
Riding fixed gear brakeless has the exact same single point of failure and I can't remember ever seeing a post about that being a dumb choice. Let's just get some perspective.

Really? This thread is 33 pages of dumb braking choice.
I could ride a freewheel with no brakes for 20 years in rural Victoria and not even think that what I'm doing is risky. I could ride with 3 brakes and get hit by a truck. A great mashton once said "anecdote does not make evidence" or something. He was drunk and posting naked again.
Instead of further debate I will post a picture of kumquats

Jeez... brake cables, chains, whatevs. Nothing really to add, but i did ride for a few days last week freewheel, rear brake only, and the caliper barely functioned at all.

Thanks. Now I can no longer use that particular bit of hyperbole.
I'll miss it, I'll be honest. :(

Oliver, is there's not much going on at the LCC that made you dredge a week-old topic?

From here:

'We will refuse any work and/or selling parts to customers arriving on bicycles without brakes.'

Yes. I don't spend every minute on the internet.

I'm about to add a fourth brake to my polo bike! :)
-
• #1797
Yes. I don't spend every minute on the internet.
but surely the time you do spend on the internet is on Japanese bike shop websites?
Why one would have to be a fool not to spend their time on Japanese bike shop websites.

Riding in with Mattha this morning.
A Faux Fixie Fuckwit on blue bike of penge draws up to the lights.
"Do you have a rear brake"
"No."
"But you are riding single speed not fixed"
"Yes"
"What would you do if your front brake cable snaps?
"Does that happen a lot?"
"Yes it does happen, so how would you stop, or would you use your face as a brake"
FFF points to his poor fitting possibly toys r us full face helmet.Cue hilarity from matt and myself.
Despite his flounce Matt's contact details are in the phone no's section, and he is willing to corroborate.
