  • What everybody up there ^ said.
    Another helpful link

    Bamberclot.

  • Disc space is cheap 1TB = £50

Always good to have the high res files.

  • No need for a droplet, no need to open all the images, just batch them with potatoshop's built in 'batch'.

mm.. point taken. Sometimes the batch interface is a pain in the arse.

Droplets are super useful though. I store loads on my dropbox, so I can send them to clients or use them on other people's computers. Geek out

  • Droplets and actions make my head hurt... I still can't make them work... I get minions to do them...

  • Ha!!! Thank you guys, it worked, I definitely need to learn more about that thing, but so far all good...

To Sandy_L, in this case I really don't need to keep high res, and I have the originals on a DVD anyway if needed... Just wanted easy access on server without compromising memory...

    Thanks again!!

    Loic

  • Droplets are better than batch processing if you want to rename files.
    That much is patently clear.
I still can't get mine to work.

    Fuuuuuuuuu.

  • You can run the action on a folder of images, only one image is open at a time.

    you have minions? Jealous.

I used to, not any more..

  • Come with me on a trip down memory lane.

When I first used Pshop you could not rotate an image (and certainly not a portion of an image) - if you wanted something at - for instance 90 degrees - we would have to rescan it at 90 degrees - back then saving a big image (by big I am talking only 10mb or so) might take you 40 minutes plus, so we basically rarely saved (not sure we even had 'undo') and used to work on an image for a few hours and then hit save and go out for a cup of tea, come back in half an hour to see how far the save progress bar had moved or if the whole system had collapsed yet.

We came up with all sorts of tricks to get around the massive limitations back then.

    [/old timer ramblings]

  • rescan it at 90 degrees? Fuck.

What exactly was the point of it back then- basic digital darkroom and image re-sizing? I'm guessing there were no layers if you couldn't even make a selection or a basic transform?

  • ^so you could embed shit on 4chan.

PhotoShop 1.0, no layers... That's all I can remember about it... I used it to blur type... I still can't figure out how people did the things they did on the first version...

  • photoshop? Pah!

taking trannies to the 'retouchers' so they could put a wash of ink over an over exposed area of snow and waiting for them to do their magic on the final 6x6 that got sliced in two on the cutting mat by accident.

i remember going to see a photographer about some assisting work, he proudly showed me a shot of a rose for prudential insurance that was stored on a dat tape. they had turned the rose petals blue, "what sorcery is this!" I cried and ran out into the street and sought the sanctuary of a coaching house for a pint of ale.

I am not sue if that is a joke or not ?

The reason I say that is that I did that job ! No joking, seriously, making the Prudential Rose blue, I have a reasonably embarrassing story about the job too, unless I have bored you with the story before and you are just taking the piss ?

Would have been around 1994 (ish)

  • Let me know what you need them to do and I'll make up some for you.

Ha thanks. It's too work specific however.

  • ....Would have been around 1992 (ish)

That was about my 1st experience with Photoshop too, and Mackintosh.
My neighbor's uncle was a Magazine Editor, and he gave something him like this

...It came with Photoshop, I remember I was around 12 (1992) and that experience
with Photoshop was trying to alter my, then, Dog's face. Didn't really happened.

  • so it appears that tynan worked on aforementioned blue prudential rose.
    small world innit.
(i'll leave it up to him to tell the funny story behind it)

  • "Wait! *Roses *are red? *Violets *are blue? Shit! And on this one-day-to-be-antiquated-technology this will take me many hours to fix! If only I had had a tea break before colouring it!"

Client from Prudential comes into the studio - he has a 10 x 8 tranny and a scan of a red rose, he wants it turned into a blue rose, a specific Pantone blue, a simple job turned into a nightmare by this bloke being a spectacularly clueless idiot who had never even seen Photoshop before let alone knew his way around it - and he decided to sit next to me all day and order me about.

After a very long frustrating day with this moron turning a straightforward job into a disaster that ended up looking like a pile of shit we wrapped up, said our goodbyes and after a couple of minutes had passed, to make sure he had left the building, I dropped to my knees and went on a very long and very loud rant about what a total cunt this bloke was, I was literally shouting out at the top of my voice - calling him every name under the sun, people in the studio were laughing, which encouraged me to really lay into him . . after a couple of minutes when I had calmed down the client stuck his head around the corner/partition thing and said "Alright, I am off now, see you on Monday" - he hadn't actually left the building, he was making a phone call a few feet away behind a partition and heard every word of my rant.

    Very embarrassing.

  • Yep, that'd do it.
