  • did you calibrate the scales btw ? ;)

  • windy81: i have a few bikes like that... one of them is this beauty:

(It has since been upgraded with an FSA-crankset, so now it's crazy fast, not fixed gear though)

    haj I want your life

  • why? I'm quite worthless..

  • How much does you fixed gear/singlespeed weigh?

Just wondering how heavy mine is in comparison to other peoples.

  • honestly the weight is usually moot if it not a struggle cycling across London.

thought my Bianchi Pista is almost obviously heavier than my Peugeot fixed wheel conversion.

  • Mine weighs more than a bag of chips and less than Planet Earth. It means fuck all because I'm a lot heavier than my bike and always will be.. and so will all the other London cyclists.. the fat bastards.

    Some frame weights..

  • Ahh, nice find, I'm debating whether to get the Surly Steamroller or spend £45 more for a Bob Jackson.

  • Nice find? I fucking typed it :P

I have no idea what either are like to ride.. but the Jackson is made here right? So it's the more ecologically sound choice. :)
Have you ridden either here? Should be enough of each around to get a test ride on.
£45 is nothing. Just make sure whichever one fits you.

  • hasn't slept for two days, didn't read the site properly, oop!

My mind said go for the Bob for the obvious reason it's a Bob Jackson, but the Surly has been praised by it's wonderful ride, but yes you're right, a test ride is required before I decided.

find any weight on a Bianchi Pista? google show nowt (so far).

  • No one with a Pista would dare weigh it :)

  • Depending on what wheels I have got on either just over 14.6 lbs (6632g) or 15.3lbs.

  • "So, I jammed down to the LBS, and they threw my Bianchi Pista on the scale. 20lbs even. That includes a front brake, two 'thorn-proof' (i.e. heavyweight) tubes, Cateye taillight, and the mount for the headlight. Not bad considering my previous bike was a 40lb.+ (with commute gear) Peugeot.
Has anyone else weighed their bike? Whatcha got?"

  • My old Peugeot fixed gear conversion (a "Mangalloy HLE" frame, not light but not heavy either for an entry levels frame) weight altogether 8.3kg (18lbs), the Bianchi Pista is 9.6kg (21lbs).

I was a bit surprised to be honest, but then it's my own fault for not thinking it through, either way the Bianchi is still great, much more responsive than the Pug, thought carrying it up to the flat is a bit of a drag sometime.

  • i have a pretty much stock Fuji, and in the catalogue its says its 20lbs.. so, yeh.. ill stick with that

  • in my mind, there isn't even a choice between a surly and a bob jackson. in a battle between old skool class and new skool pretenders, good will always triumph over evil.

    Best £45 you'd ever spend!

  • pulled a frame off a (very) old bike yesterday (with much hacksawing, breaking of mole-grips and swearing), and it feels like it could be light enogh to be made into a proper user (not jsut for rolling down the high street on). bearing in mind it's hilly as fuck round here, does six pounds for a bare frame (no forks or bb) sound ok to you? don't have the slightest fucking clue about all this y'see

  • 2.7 kg

It's definitely not what you'd call light.

  • 2.7kg for a bare frame (no headset cups) is quite heavy, but very common.

The standard weight for Reynolds 501 is 2.4kg and 531c is 2.05kg.

It depends on the frame size as well, I have two "old" frames (64cm) made from standard plain gauge steel tubing and they are 3.0 kg and 3.2kg. My 64cm 531 frame is 2.2kg.

2.7kg will be ok for training.

  • Personally it'd have to weigh at least 10kg for me to want to ride it.

  • Even a light steel frame is only a couple of pounds lighter....most people wouldn't even notice a 2 pound difference on an overall build when actually riding it. People get far too hung up on light weight. It's how the bike rides that is important...My brooklyn frame weighs about 6 pounds and i prefer riding that around London to riding my old Storck which weighed a fraction of the amount.

  • 2.9 kg with fork, headset and BB.

    I'm doing alright then?

  • 1115 grams for the frame, 320 for the fork on the 56cm version of the bike I am on today.

Mine is a 58cm so will be slightly more.

That's actually rather worryingly light, I wish I had not looked that up now.

  • ... That's actually rather worryingly light ...

yep, rusting away on the inside presumably
