Bike & Frame Weight

  • Fuck, I just weighed my bike and it turns out it's 8.5kg. Can't even look at it now.

  • Disgusting, how can you ride something like that?

  • Weight makes - for me at least - the greatest difference when riding a bike - I am more than sure it will differ for the individual, but depending on your riding style, how you throw a bike around and so on, getting on a super light bike can be revelatory.

Going fixed, although something of a milestone for me - simply does not compare to changing from a 30lb bike to a 13lb bike. - If I were to give up either riding fixed or riding a super lightweight bike, it would fixed that goes first.

    +1

My 29er weighs 8.5Kg (I think). I went pretty weight weenie on it, but it still has a steel frame. Of all the interesting aspects of this bike, I'd have to be honest and say the lack of weight is the most notiable thing when throwing it around trails.

I'm hoping to put together a sub 6Kg road bike next.

  • Had a search around and I can't really find anything concerning frames, their weight and whether one would regard them as light or not.

I have a pretty heavy 50cm frame (as I am 5ft 8, i'm not kidding myself) but I'm looking into building my second fixie. What would a light frame weigh (not including forks)??

    Cheers guys.

  • under 1.4kg

  • 900 gram frame, 340 gram fork would be a good one to aim for I reckon.

Really light is ~600g for the frame.

  • Weight weenies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Weight's important for a small guy like me, a wheelies out of the question with the weight of my steel frame!

hhhmmmmm appears I didn't search hard enough, not too much info on whether they're light or not though.

  • under 1.4kg

not a single light frame on that page

    An expert are we?

  • not a single light frame on that page

not these days, but if OP's looking at steel

  • Just buy this. Simple.

  • An expert are we?

yes, my TSX frame is a heavy frame compard to my carbon or titanium ones.

  • not these days, but if OP's looking at steel

Not looking for a steal frame to be honest, too heavy imo.

  • Weight weenies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    ^ This.

  • ^ This.

Weight's more important to some than others...

How weak are you? Are you super skinny or could you loose a few kg yourself? Always chuckle at the guy who lives near me who's like 20st and rides a shiv.
    HTFU.

Does the guilt weigh down a stolen frame or something?

  • for cheap and light the only option is aluminium or carbon directly from china

  • Popcorn. I suspect this thread has legs.
    Just sayin'

I'm 5ft 8 and 9.7 stone. This build is for a freestyle fixie, not road, therefore weights slightly more important.

  • "Strong, light, cheap, pick two".

    Keith Bontrager.

  • Then why would you want anything other than steel you plonker? I'd rather have a frame that could take a pounding and be repaired than shatter.
Just look around you, whats every half decent freestyle bike(whatever wheel size) made of?

Well I have a steel frame atm, it's way too heavy. I assumed that, because of it's weight, steel wouldn't be ideal for a trick fixie...maybe i'm wrong. But yeah, I guess it'll need to be prepared to take a pounding.
