And more importantly, have you talked to them before posting? Give them the chance to resolve the problem?
-

talk to them or learn to love the new colour ;) no good company is going to want you being angry about the job - they'll want you happy. after you speak to them let us know the outcome.

Suppose I'm just venting, So bear with me. But, WTF!!!! I sent my bike out to be resprayed and it came back not looking anything like the colour that I had picked? I looked carefully at the colour swatches and made a specific choice (Cobalt blue) But it came back almost Navy blue! It's a really dark blue and doenst look anything like what I chose. Saying all of that, the dark blue isn't horrible but it's not what I paid a lot of money for. Complaining and trying to send back a respray just doesnt sound that easy or practical. I guess I'll just bend over and take this one :( Sigh Ah well.
Cobalt, Navy... who gives a fuck

Nice!

my local powder coaters will eagerly respray an item till its to the clients satisfaction.
Im sure its the standard practice in the trade, if theres blemishes etc or the colour comes out wrong, then Im sure they will help you out.
If the colour you chose was actually labelled cobalt blue, a very distinctive colour, you should easily be able to see if they made a mistake which can happen.

Armourtex refused to take my money from me until I had given their work the OK.
I tried to pay up front when I dropped the parts off, but they insisted that I waited until the work was completed and checked it all to make sure it was just how I wanted it before they would take any money.

Dave Yates once told me a story about a very good friend of mine who sent a couple of frames down to be painted. The friend, whose identity I will not reveal is a great cyclist who thinks nothing of cycling 100 miles on a Sunday ride. His problem is that his wife does not like the amount he spends on his bike collection. Before the days when mobiles were commonplace, it was necessary for him to do all his negotiations by telephoning from a call box.The call in question was to discuss the colours for his frames. One of which was a classic Claude Butler USWB tandem (circa 1948), the other was a modern Brian Rourke track iron. As it was a long distance call, the 'phone required feeding as fast as he could push the money in, and he lost the connection more than once during the conversation. Suffice it to say that with the confusion caused by bad lines, cut-offs, and stopping passers-by for change showed itself in the finished job. My pal became the proud owner of a British Racing Green track bike, and a Fluorescent Pink Vintage Tandem.

I certainly give a F*#k. The Cobalt Blue is definitely what I wanted. Cobalt and Navy are really different.
I got the Bike sprayed at Bike Works in NYC. I haven't talked to them yet as they haven't been answering their phone due to apparently low employee turnout? I will keep calling until I get someone.
I wont go on some monster tyrade, I'll keep my cool and explain the problem. Hopefully it will be resolved. It cost me about $260 which is a lot of money for me. I saved my pennies until I had enough. I actually feel even worse that my girl has to keep shuttling my steed back and forth to the shop. She's a good one and will be justly rewarded.
If it all goes tits up it will still turn out to be a really nice ride, just not quite what I was hoping for. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

+1 How refreshing. Seldom get that kind of service in any environment nowadays's
With regards to the OP. Bend over and take it? Not fucking likely. As I understand it you have chosen a specific colour from a swatch. This is the colour you wish to have your pride and joy adorned in.
Unfortunately it seems there has been an error of some sort. Get in touch with them straight away, dont be all arsey about it just explain the situation and ask what they propose to do about it. You have paid for something you are clearly unhappy with, for good reason.
The company in question will, I hope do all they can to redress the situation to your satisfaction.
If it were me I would be contacting them immediately after receipt of the item.
Where was the work carried out?

where the hell did you get it done in NYC? was it this place?
America is full of spray shops, how did you manage to spend $260 on a Navy Blue powdercoat?
My local does frame & forks, chemically stripped, blasted & coated
for £15.

my local actually pays me to let them powder coat stuff.

iv just re-read the original post, it never mentions powder coating.
May well be a fancy expensive enamel job or something, still a bit rich for the USA especially.

ok ok, I spoke to the Girlfriend and she put me straight. The paint job was 210 due to it being a special metallic paint job. I priced several places before I went for it and I found that most of the prices were comparable. If you know of a place in NYC that is considerably cheaper let me in on so I have it for future refference.
The good news in all of this is that I finally spoke to them and they were really helpful and are going to respray it again to get it right no charge. Who would have thunk it? So no more worries.

see, best solving an issue directly instead of venting to the world.

Oh and the other $50 was to put my bike back together. I can do that by myself but I'm not in NYC and it had to be done.

Achh! Nothing wrong with a bit of venting. I would say it was quite tame compared to other venting Ive witnessed on these here pages ;)

I suppose his missus would have liked the tandem then

Who and where? Tell me now!
Its in Birmingham!
Im sure you can find something similar priced in the thousands of spray shops which must be in greater london.

cheers dfp, don't spose you know anything about transfers, adding lettering etc do you?
-
• #49
This may sound stupid and be totally wrong but what was the colour before? Could it just be that they put on a heavier coat of paint or it went over an already existing dark cover?
-
• #50
if it aint neon, then it's definitely the wrong colour!
Who sprayed it then? How much did they charge?
