  • sorry if someone else already asked this - I tried to set up a second donation subscription off-set with the existing one. got the receipt through from paypal but it doesn't show up on my Active Subscriptions, only the old one. does it work? just take time to display? been a few hours now.

  • Donated. Will setup yearly donation with next pay check

  • Just spent 100 quid on wiggle through affiliates click, hope you get a little of that. Will also up my donation.

  • I did not even realise the affiliates thing existed. I have only been on here a year or so, and mainly stick to the classifieds. Maybe make the list a sticky in those forums to remind those with money burning a hole?

I will be using the links to purchase a bike in the next two weeks, and will also buy more beers as I think I'm due...

  • Good to see lots of new donors giving what they can.

Velocio - when you say "encourage more people to help out", can you specify how, or post a link to a conversation elsewhere about this?

  • Done!

  • Donated, sorry for not doing it sooner

  • Donated. Hope it helps.

Is there a thread on all this affiliation stuff? I have no idea what it all is and how it works???

  • Cheers. I did search..

  • Maybe VB can make it a sticky in all the classified sub-forums.

Most people go straight to 'complete bikes, f&f' or 'components, clothing...' etc rather than going onto the main classifieds & shopping forum and scrolling down.

Would increase exposure many fold I would have thought.

  • Done.

  • I agree with what has been said above; I was totally naive as to the sheer cost of keeping this place going. A monthly donation will be set up come next-pay.

  • Where do you donate?
    ;P

Sent some dollars. Aussie FGSS is shite. Long live LFGSS (and those who post stuff o/s)

Hope the coffers are up VB.

  • Done

  • Donated.

  • How can I donate but not get the gold star?

Get the gold star. Wear it in the shower, while you play violin, as you eat a burger, riding your bike, all the time.

  • Velocio - when you say "encourage more people to help out", can you specify how, or post a link to a conversation elsewhere about this?

Oh I literally mean that an increased quantity of people could donate a small sum of money.

The goal is to spread the burden as evenly as possible, and for it to be subscription based. That would make the revenue predictable and stable. And the more people who give a little, the less of a burden it is for anyone, and the more immune the books are to people flouncing.

Mostly the place runs itself, I just have to make sure there's enough money in the bank for all the booze that the servers drink each month.

  • how we doing so far?

  • Upgraded....... Couldn't find the bubbly and strippers option, would be flippin funny seeing that on the monthly bank statement! 'Mortgage approval Sir, let's just check your account........... Erm.........' Too funny.

Guy I know of who runs his own design agency likes to do that to his freelancers:

  • Incredibly well.

The serious money came within the first few hours, and it's tailing off to a slow dribble of much smaller figures.

But... we raised enough for the next month within an hour or so of my putting the banner up and the call out.

As to our arrears, which have been accrued over 6 months and are just shy of 3 months full cost (approx half of the costs each month for the last 6 months I've covered), we've already covered almost 2 months full cost of those.

Meaning we've raised just shy of £3k since launching the campaign, have £1k to go to put us at zero (and paid to the end of May), after which every bit extra buys more time.

Also, we've never had this many donors before, nor have they ever been so generous. Usually we have a small core who will do subscriptions at mostly the lowest level (quarterly subscriptions were way more popular than monthly ones), and one-off donations tended to hover around the £10 > £20 mark. Yesterday saw more people move to the monthly subscription, and more one-off donations of a larger size. More than a few people threw £100 or more into the coffers.

The most important bit of that is that with more monthly donors we won't have a large a gap in future months even if we go back to ignoring the finances (the best place to be).

Besides... hopefully the affiliate stuff will recover fully once the sun comes out.

We're doing damn well, and I very much doubt we'd need to keep banging the drum throughout May, once we're in the black and it looks like we have half of June covered too I'll pull it down early.

  • thats what we like to hear :-)

    forum love

  • Donated. Thanks for the site.

I don't want to talk about my donations, I do a lot for charity, I just don't want to talk about it...
