PayPal is dumb, so yes.
But there's a downside, vBulletin is dumb too.
It is possible to create a race condition, where one subscription expires whilst another is valid and for you to lose the gold star in the interim period of time.
Thanks, will try and use the affiliate thread when I remember. Will avoid dumbness and top up with a 1-off instead :)

Ermahgerd, Jimmeh Wuhls!
Donated.
+1 for an affiliates sticky. Do On-One/Planet-X do an affiliates scheme?

Added an extra little donation.
I would also happily pay to use the classifieds. Mostly I find it excellent for sourcing parts that I need, however it seems more and more it's becoming a marketplace for people earn a profit, rather than a place to trade parts etc.

it's a little counter-intuitive but would a run of caps help bring in some revenue i think there's a backlog of people who want them from the caps thread.
Not counter-intuitive, it would help.
But it takes 6-8 weeks to turn around and sell, which takes too long and also requires cash flow.
I'm deferring caps and hoping to move them to LFGSS CIC (the cycle club company) so that all merchandise is in one-place and the accounting is far better and much more transparent (a certified non-profit rather than me personally paying stuff and managing the money).
So yes... it would help, but it can't help quick enough, so I'd rather leave it for now and do it better when we do it (new designs too).

I know, I don't like this bit... hence I leave it too long hoping I won't have to.

Not as far as I know.

how about if you did it by pre-order? quick injection of cash and caps get sent out when they arrive?
can't help but think you might get money out of some people who might not be inclined to 'donate' but are happy if they get something in return (other than an awesome forum obvs).

In order not to get utterly hosed on Shopify fees, you'd need to be a proper non-profit, which means being a CIC with the right kind of bank account... see other thread.

put the banner on user CP homepage too,
I for one rarely go to http://www.lfgss.com/, rather to my bookmarked pages

Cash flow is a bitch, we'd take the money in, pay immediate servers costs or the recent losses (so I can get through), then have nothing to pay for caps with, and you'd all be very angry.
This is one of the many ways I could screw things up, it's best to treat these as distinct things, solve the immediate issue and then move forward with doing other stuff. And when we do that, do it in a better way (as the club, nicer design, better service, with profits being counted as GiftAid donations to the club).

not if you go posts>sub'd threads
it appears if you refresh though
I only put it on 3/4 of the web servers.
I thought it randomly appearing would draw attention to it.

Which email address should people use for donations larger than the £100 max on the donations page?
-

Oops, my donations had lapsed and I'd forgotten to renew. So have done that.

Donated £10.
I hope it helps.

I wish. I'm moving house and working for free at the moment. I'm nearly skint.

If anyone wishes to donate more than £100 then paypal@lfgss.com
That can also be used for arbitrary amounts where you don't wish to be credited with a gold star on the site.

Definitely worth making the affiliates page more obvious - like it being a sticky in every section or giving it a link of its own at the top.
I completely forgot they existed & at the moment the thread is in a place I doubt many people look...

I didn't even know there was an affiliates link, how does one find it?

Thanks to the donations already in, I've been able to transfer enough money to the bank to pay the hosting bill that goes out tomorrow.
The donations currently cover 1 months costs, so the immediate panic is already over.
I will run the banners throughout May though, as I will need to cover the recent losses and put us onto a better footing.
