How far are you away from where you need to be in £ notes? Is it a number large enough to consider a fund raising event?

£90 in the first 30 minutes or so.
I doubt we'd need a fund raiser... but I'll not say no as the finances are never totally comfortable... but then, it's nice to live just within comfort, I'm sure I wouldn't seek such creative solutions if money was just sat there waiting to be spent on hardware.
If stuff happens and money comes in... then great, as it will mean I have to come cap in hand even less than I already do. But it's not critical... if it was I'd be cap in hand for the monthly fees too, but the occasional fund raiser always help see us through for quite a while.

I was thinking about pimping you out. Not sure if this is a sustainable business though.

We should offer punters a fall back option, maybe Pravy for the Benetton style market coverage?

Don't.
it's not supposed to be pressure. And we're always fine, and we always get through.
It's supposed to be "IF you can afford to, and IF you think it's worth it" then buy the server booze.
So if you can't afford it, buy yourself booze and if at some point you can afford it... re-assess whether you feel it's worth it, etc.
No-one has to. For those who can afford to and do want to please go ahead and donate, everyone else should just do what they want and not feel guilt about it or anything.

FYI people - Exchange rate 12 months ago was approx $2 = £1, today it is $1.40 = £1
Translation: It's 30% more expensive now to keep the site going.
Paid - even put in a £5 each for Donut and Plagarist

if only we could find a way of stopping hippy posting we wouldn't need quite so many GIGA BYTES !
STOP IT HIPPY your ruining the site with your informative useful postsWhat if I just post "Ha!" in every thread to save on bandwidth?

I just buy a couple of drinks to the server

How about "Ha! +1" just for sake of clarity.
With the space that's only 6 bytes - cache that and...mumble...mumble...that can be 1,074,000,000 repeat posts for a very low price.

So now I owe you a drink or two and the server on payday!(I should point out I'm only broke because of some unexpected expendature I had after I'd bought my new frameset).
And in reply to VB, it's always worth it. This forum has been responsible for introducing me to the vast majority of people that I now call friends. I'd have never met my housemates without this place and I certainly would be in a poorer emotional state without Londonfgss. I've said it before but thank you, I truely mean that.

It's no pressure sir. I love the forum (it gets me out the house) and want to give back whatever I can.
I think everyone should donate and anything that's left buys some bits for the birthday picnic.

Agreed, was talking to Mrs Slain the other week and she commented on how much more she liked my bike friends than my regular friends... I think I have to agree with her*... Seriously tho', I love this place...

I'm getting all moist eyed here. You can feel the love in this thread today. :-)
