Always make sure you understand each other with Mario on what you want (lug lining colour, do the lugs need a bit of tidying or not - it was the case on my witcomb, due to a bit of rust, etc... - stripes, panels, etc...) and that everything it written down on his order sheet. Be as specific as you can and everything will go well.

I work at Bloor Door Bicycles (where that Yellow/Orange Talbot was made by the user coldharbour) and every frame that we have had sent to Vaz has come back really nice, here are 2 examples:

Great looking bikes Ryan...
Anyone know where I can have my bike dismantled to take the frame to Mario? Mainly the cranks, BB and HS, I can do the rest. Just called him he says he does not take the bikes apart?

Where are you based?
In Central Fitzrovia are good. Condor are too but I can imagine their workshop gets booked up.
Near East, Look Mum No Hands.
North, Mosquito, or Push.
South, Brixton Cycles.

That frame is sick!
How much for a flat paint job, just frame?
-
• #467
I paid £80 per frame: sparkly dark red + decals applied + lacquer.
Not a bad job... You'll see them when you pick up the Bonts. -

Best bit is getting to see his workshop:

Thanks guy, has been reassuring reading this thread after the first couple of posts said his job was not really that perfect.
I guess he improved with time :)Going to bring him a Holdsworth Mistral for paint + full set of decals (quoted at £105, so not bad).
I think I'll go RAL 3005 - Wine red. Will post pictures as soon as I get it, take it there and back.
Here's the frame as it is now:

This is an amazing restoration job! Think I might take my Viner to Mario asap...

Brought the frame to him.
Lovely dude indeed. Showed me the frame he was working on (had a nice Colnago which just came out of the over, in the very same wine red color I wanted!).
Also showed his 'repair' guy, who, turns out, is a proper frame builder (even Reynolds 753 authorized !) who worked for Chas Roberts for many years. Not bad.
Anyway, the full job costs me £110, which is nothing considering 1) who's doing it 2) full set of decals, even the Holdsworthy one in the second picture above 3) the price other quoted for a wet paint
Also he's almost sure that frame could have passed thru his hands already when first built !
My Witcomb was done back by Mario in January. As recommended by the guys at Union Cycle Works, I waited a month before building the bike to allow for the paint to harden. They have a lot of / most of / all of (?) their paint jobs done by Mario (I think so but I'm not 100% sure) so they should know. I did not have all the parts anyway so was not bothered waiting a bit. I suppose this would be true for any re-enamelling generally.
Anyway, the bike is now built since february and the only chips on the frame are definitely due to me (bike against other bikes, etc...): they are only a couple of them, the paint definitely didn't "self chip" (OK your friend's frame wasn't build, but how well was it stored?), Mario gave me a little pot of paint to retouch the frame if needed, and finally the paint is definitively as strong as what Colourtech had done for me on my Dave Russel (for more money).
I can understand that someone who had frames powder coated would find an enamelling more fragile, but that's just normal. It's not the same product at all. And visually the result is not as delicate in the case of powder coating, although Armourtech seems to have made great progress in that matter (thinner coat, lug lining service, etc), but there is still the problem of the transfers that cannot be under the clear coat due to the high oven temperatures...
