i'm right south of nashville tn so no mountians but a few hills and i ride about 60 miles a week on 46/15=80.6...that's with no brakes but plenty of straightaways to slowdown

48/17 - I find this pretty much perfect at the moment - can zoom down hills with a lot of spinning and can get up serious hills without stopping. Wouldn't want anything less but not sure I'm ready for any more gear inches yet!

i've been riding 48/18 (70ish) for nearly two years, and this week i switched to 48/16 (79ish). enjoying the novelty of blasting around the place and the extra speed, but it's much harder to stop and manoeuvre through traffic, and it prolly won't do my rollapaluza times any good.
just wanted to ride a gear that takes a bit of extra pushing for a while and see how i like it. will keep it for a few weeks until my body adjusts and then decide.

I've ridden 96" up Swains Lane (15%ish section)
fucking impressive !

TBH, it feels a lot more impressive when I zoom up there on a 62" gear. Probably looks more impressive too... unless you're impressed by the sight of someone shitting their own intestines at 2mph.

600mi around Ireland != 100mi of commuting. :)

A race perhaps then?
on a monday rush hour in London.
last person to stay on both wheels wins...I don't race in traffic. It's bad for my health.

Oh I know this one, I accidently carried out a scientific study where I did the same route while stone cold sober and while completely pissed, I was a good 15% faster pissed, i'm guessing with all the alcohol your muscles can't get the message through that you're murdering them so you keep pedalling like you're not tired out, but boy do you feel it in the morning!
I always used to think I'm going way faster when I'm drunk.. then I'd check the speedo next day and I'd be slow as shit. :)
Does depend on how drunk I was though.

how bout a track day where the rule is to ride a gearing with no less than 100GI
-
• #493
Sure.
Can your widdle weggies even turn 100" gear?
:) -

Just went down from 48/15 to 48/17. If hills aren't too steep, I can pick up some real speed on them which is cool. Slightly miss the toughness of 48/15 though.

Currently 48/18, seems to do the trick in London. A tad spinny I suppose
-
• #496
I'm on 48/18 as well, seems to do the job, enough speed and and also spinny enough to get up hills. Cruised by a load of geared bikes yesterday going up Cannonbury Road, they looked like they were really struggling. Not sure what the point of having gears is if you don't know which one you are meant to be in.

48/16. Think I might step it up on the front to 49 or 50 as I've had a few 'I want to go faster' moments. Will an extra tooth or two up front make a huge difference?
46 : 17 muthafucka
