  • Oh. I missed those Pacenti Brevets. Internal width of 19mm, every little helps...

  • My 38c G-ones measure 40/41mm on a 22.5mm internal width rim if that helps at all...

So on a 19mm internal rim width they would be less than that, I think?

I could go for the compass 42mm tyres and if they don't fit, sell them on. I'd rather know up front though.

As a plan, how does: "build the Pacenti rims onto high flange Phil double fixed hubs with Sapim race spokes; then mount them and measure tyre clearance before deciding on tyres" sound?

(Exeecise for the reader: insert bit about me lacing them up and @vince truing them up for me)

  • So on a 19mm internal rim width they would be less than that, I think?

Yes. How much narrower, I couldn't say.

  • I really wasn't expecting you to build this (steamroller). Bravo if you do.

Have a look at at these at cycleclinic
    https://thecycleclinic.co.uk/collections/rims/products/kinlin-tl-21-mtb-gravel-touring-rim-disc-brake

  • Anyone who tells you never to brake on a discbrake rim is a victim. Bike rims never used to have machined brake tracks. There's some aluminium there (to hold the air in and keep the rim vaguely round and that). You can wear it down a bit. Use soft pads if you're worried.

  • Or pay double for the Brevets.

  • < waits for the engineering crowd to tell me why I'm talking rubbish >

  • I'm paying double for the Brevets.

    Because:

    a) shiny
    b) proper brake track
    c) this frame was essentially free

I'm using it as a vehicle for nice things and things I've always wanted. It will be finished when I can afford for it to be finished. No shortcuts, but at the same time, not crazy money.

  • BTW, the one I am building is a 59 that fits me. BC sorted out a swap, I just had to pay twenty quid postage.

  • Anyone who tells you never to brake on a discbrake rim is a victim

Ish. I'd add the caveats that we're talking about metal rims, and that they have more or less flat and parallel walls. Not all disc-brake rims jump through those hoops. If you want to be really picky, most modern rim-brake rims have some sort of indicator to show when they are at the wear limit, and you obviously won't get that with disc-brake rims.

You missed Velocity Cliffhanger too, also expensive but nice and wide and available in shiny.

  • Only available in black with MSW.

  • Only available in black with MSW.

But NMSW in black or polished. As @Skülly intimates, MSW just grinds material off the same extrusion as you can buy with NMSW; let your pads do the grinding :)

  • Word^

  • Then your fixed wheel will look rad, and your front will wear in after a good descent or two.

  • Aha! You swapped it.

  • Oooh cliffhanger is available in a reflective finish! Woah.

  • Will dish / true / tension for free if you lace

  • That is so generous of you @Vince. Thank you!

  • TREDZ being TREDZ.

Usually 3 weeks delayed delivery expected.

I swear them must hold no stocks and order from their supplier when people place an order.

  • must hold no stocks and order from their supplier when people place an order

You ordered from them because they had the lowest price, right? Holding stock is expensive, which make immediate fulfilment a premium service.

  • Now use the wait to think about what you’ve done.

  • You ordered from them because they had the lowest price, right? Holding stock is expensive, which make immediate fulfilment a premium service.

The only times I've ordered things from Tredz is because they were the only people to claim (emphasis on the word 'claim') to be able to supply them. Cue, after having paid for the goods, the inevitable email saying 'Yeeeaaah, about that order your placed...', followed quickly by a cancelled order. The only purpose of Tredz, as far as I can see, is to provide disappointment. Other than that, they have no purpose.

  • They're not on my go-to list, but all the orders I've placed have been fulfilled eventually, and they've always advised of delays before I've had to ask why they haven't delivered yet. On that basis, I'd say the purpose of them is to be the option when their price is lower than the competition and you don't need the stuff in any kind of a hurry.

EDIT: Which is exactly what @Fox said two years ago and many others concurred.
