I'm thinking of getting a pair of Quill rims for another build. I could just get some more XR31T rims, but I've got three pairs of them already, and I understand that variety is the spice of life. Do you know of any UK stockists? I've only found Merkins selling them so far.

The reason i ask is I have a set of SL25 I picked up from PX on the cheap and have built up w CX Ray straight pull and 350 hubs. Expensive hubs and spokes. If I’m susceptible to cracking I should be on the lookout for rims w same ERD (590).

follow that google search Dan for quill stockists.
Who is Merkins? Merlin cycles they dont have them.

The SL25 is not prone to cracking. I have had one go but thats it. No other disc rim with an ERD of 590mm so your out of luck there. The current forza is the replacement ERD 591mm so there you go.

Ah, thanks, will be in touch. My Google-Fu was weak when I looked, evidently. It probably didn't help that I was in Mallorca at the time with the result that Google thought my insistence on using google.co.uk was just some Anglophile quirkiness on my part. Merkins = Americans. Or a pubic wig. But in this context, Americans.

Thanks for the feedback.
If I ever need to replace the rim. Is there the option for going for something with a slightly shorter ERD (XR31T) and having the spokes cut shirter and re-rolled?
-
• #7058
Hey! bit late but you ordered your spokes yet?
-
• #7059
Yes you can get spokes shortened; I got some CX Rays done when I swapped an Open Pro for Kinlin and like fuck was I throwing them in the bin! George Hall Cycles did mine

Thanks. Hopefully @broken_777 or @cycleclinic will be able to help if I ever get in that situation.

Not ordered yet - what are you after?
I have been holding back due to postage charges!!!
PM me :-)

• #7062
I'll need to order some as soon as my hubs arrive and I measure them up. But that might be a few weeks yet. I would also need onward postage so not sure how economical that is.

It won't be unfortunately

Depends on the length of the butted section.

Stans recommend 125KgF on the ArchMk3. On the rear should I aim for this as a max on the drive side and whatever balances on the NDS?

I want to build some nice new fixed wheels for road use (I'll pretend I'll use them on the track eventually but it'll be a miracle if I actually do get around to it.)
I'm inclined to go for low flange Dura-Ace. Should I not? Should I consider something else for the same price point or is there something else I should consider that may be even slightly more #buyer-esque but are so spectacularly good that I'd be a fool to buy anything else?
Probably going to pair them with TB14s.

Email them, as two wheels worth of spokes may be sent RM small parcel.
They did for me -

fixed wheels for road use
I'm inclined to go for low flange Dura-Ace. Should I not?DuraAce have no seals, terrible idea for road use unless you can guarantee that they'll never see any rain.
I'm never building another fixed rear that isn't 6-bolt, all the cool kids are using big rings these days so the 16T minimum isn't even a problem for racing. Custom axles should be #buyer enough for anybody :)

Suggestions for a lush six bolt front and matching non-disc front pair welcome! (Or 6-bolt rear and matching front)
-
• #7070
VeloSolo could probably help you out.

• #7071
I have cracked one sl25 rim.

Anyone have any experience of Livery Design Gruppe 6-bolt hubs? Standard of finish looks pretty great but I don't know much about them at all?

I’ve got a set of Mavic ksyrium wheels with Campagnolo freehub. Is it possible to switch it out to Shimano?
-
• #7074
What do you suspect they are doing better than Novatec which makes them worth 2-3 times the price?

Suggestions for a lush six bolt and matching non-disc front
Novatec, although it's hard to see why the front hub should look anything like the rear given the very different jobs they have to do. What I actually have in service is Shimano M758 rear paired with T780 front, and what I have in the works is Mavic Crossride paired with Aksium, with a longer term plan to put nice rims on them.
No longer made. It called the forza now.
The current pacenti rims are very good but also pricey. The current kinlin are just as good and cheaper. Velocity aileron and the quill are other often overlooked alternatives. The aileron is a really nice rim.
