use that to work out what spoke length you need

20 24 is quite common and with your rim depths should be plenty strong. Planet X does quite a lot of these and will have Shimano fit hubs, for Campag fit hubs Novatec are cheap light and very smooth (I have them). For fixed it's probably mix & match!

Stop press: both Novatec and American Classic do 20 24 for track.

matching 24h rear

also available in silver. They look like KT rather than Novatec, not that it matters. -

Hi all, could someone do me a huge favour and just double check I'm not being an idiot?
On-One Large Flange hubs. They've told me its 61mm flange diam and 31mm flange to centre.
Mavic A119 (various websites seem to have different wheel diameters for this, 604mm is the one I've found?)
32 hole.
Rear built 3-cross, using http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/spokecalc/ I make that 291.9 spoke length?
So these Sapims in 291mm would work? (unless there's better/cheaper out there?)
Unless anyone knows the ERD of the £5 DRX6000s on CRC? Google is doing me no favours.

• #535
291 is perfectly fine
-
• #537
yeah for the mavic......the erd for them is around 601
the arayas i havent seen -

Ta, at least that means I was using the spoke calculator right!

They've told me its 61mm flange diam and 31mm flange to centre.
But BDOP says they are 62mm pcd and 35mm centre to flange (front) and 29.5mm (rear)
There's no substitute for doing your own measurements, it only takes one typo on a website to waste a lot of your time.

If I'm reading tester's equation from the last page right,...622-30=292
Looks like you're poor at both reading and arithmetic. I don't think the drawing you're looking at applies to the DRX6000 either, since it's a pinned rim, and the one in the picture must be either sleeved or welded.

This is the pic of the DRX6000
but it doesn't give you any numbers from which to accurately deduce ERD -

actually yeah these on one/novatec are 29.5 center to flange
in which case if you can get 290 i'd get these instead

Hubs just arrived and measured out differently. I'll check the rim when it arrives too.

Incidentally, I've got nothing but respect for your knowledge and the fact that you answer a lot of questions round here but have you ever considered not constantly belittling and insulting people just for not knowing quite as much as you do? Just a thought.

I've considered it, but it's simply too much effort to come round in person to everybody who makes a mistake on the internet and use exactly the same words to their face, whereupon it would be clear that I'm actually pleasant but direct. You'll know when I'm trying to insult or belittle you, and the above wasn't it.

I was thinking about this spoke measuring problem and every now and then I need to replace a spoke, and ordering them to size is a pain over the net. So I thought maybe its a good idea to get a die to cut threads onto spokes myself at the required length.
Does anyone else do this?
-
• #547
You don't want a die, you want a thread rolling machine. Hozan C-700 is the classic, can be had for about £100 + shipping + VAT/duty

Yes, but the point is with a die, you can buy them 2nd hand for peanuts.
The only downfall with a die is that you might find it hard to start the cut off right, so the trick would be to cut a longer thread than needed, then trim off to the desired length.I am pretty resourceful and would probably fashion a jig to keep everything in true.
-
• #549
No, the downfall with a die isn't getting it aligned with the spoke, it's that spokes operate very close to their material limits and their long life is contingent on the benefits of having their threads forged rather than cut.

Aha yes, I see, thanks for your input.
You might wanna post in the Chinese carbon or wheelbuilding thread.
To answer the question. they should be compatible, you just need the correct spoke lengths.
