  • changes to my fuji track, in chronological order:
stem, bars, tiagra front brake and cane creek lever, pedals (SPDs), 18 tooth cog, saddle.

  • had mine 2 weeks, so far added a 105 front brake and a goldfinger lever. need to change the cog to an 18t as my thighs are dead. will be going clipless shortly. not too sure i like the feel of the bars. that'll be it though, bought it as cheap trainer for winter when i cant ride off-road so easily.

Why was the stem the first thing you changed, what's wrong with it?

well, i changed the stem/bars/brake lever at the same time.

i didn't like the stock bars, so i upgraded to a set of profile airwings, but for some reason i ordered the oversized ones, so i had to change the stem as well (now using a quill-ahead adaptor and an ahead stem with oversize clamp).

the stock stem on the 07 model was pretty heavy and ugly though...

  • @badtmy what width are those profile design handlebars??

  • @badtmy what width are those profile design handlebars??

40cm. i'm a big fan of them, they're very comfortable.

  • I'm pretty much in love with the Fuji Track frame. I've never had a frame fit so well on top of being a great handling frame and really responsive it makes it ideal for me.

So I'll upgrade it to the nth degree. I'm waiting on a new stem, headset, forks, bars, from wheel and seat post. That's what my budget can manage right now (okay it cant manage it but.. ).

When I head back to Dublin I'll be back on clipless peddles too.

    Peace

  • Awesome!, thanks, I wanna get some, but every one I've spoken to says they are uncomfortable, but then I find drops uncomfortable, you have just accelerated my wallet to till ratio.

  • I am getting an 08 track soonish hopefully, and I have to say, I like this setup a lot.

you have to make sure you set them up at the right angle, but i find them as comfortable as any other bars i've used.

cheers, me too :) i don't think the airwings look good with more "classic" frames, but the fuji is no design classic. great fun to hammer around the streets of london on, though!

  • even a simple black set-up can make the fuji look really nice;

  • Whoooooa that is either really plush shag pile carpet or those tyres need pumping up!!! looks nice though

  • 2008 was absolutely brilliant.

the 2009 looks awful. once you've had matte...

  • this is basicly all ive done to mine... swapped and chopped the bars, put on some horrible bar tape, and found a sticker to match

  • I think what you pay for with the Fuji Track is the frame. And it's a perfectly good frame. The components themselves are pretty cheap and although I bought an '08 track as a sort of stop-gap bike while I did up a vintage frame I found myself really enjoying riding it and decided to upgrade one or two bits, this soon turned into more. All that's original on it now are the frame, fork, and wheels. Replaced the stem, pedals (Smarty - Crank Bros), bars, saddle, Cane Creek lever, Shimano Ultegra 6600 caliper, tightened all the spokes by 1/4 of a turn and wheels feel better for it, 18 tooth sprocket on the back, swapped over the tires to Continental Grand Prix 4 Season as the original tires really were quite dreadful (only go up to 90 psi).

  • It's a newbie q sorry.

Want to change the standard 15t cog on my fuji for an 18t. What do I need to know about sizes/threads etc? I'd like a decent-ish quality one, where the best place to pick one up in London/online.

    Thanks

  • Went for a Surly 18T sprocket on my Fuji c.£20 - available from most retailers (try Googling).

Mid-price, shiny & should last a reasonable time ........ I'd probably upgrade the lockring at same time to say a Dura Ace

You will probably find it difficult in removing the Fuji 15T sprocket. They seem to be loctited on for some reason. You need a good 1/8 chain whip and lots of strength

  • Ta

Do you know what that 'wrap your chain in a certain way' technique of getting you cog off without a whip called?

  • It's called the 'wrap your chain in a certain way' technique!

  • Is the stock fuji 1/8 or 3/32 ?

    (for the 08 model)

  • 1/8

  • thanks bm

  • Ive found out its rotafixa -

would i need an additional chain link to go from 15 - 18t? the wheel is about halfway along the dropout.

  • Just so you know, it might be worth going one cog either side of the 18 in order to maximise the number of skid patches you are going to get. I think the 18 tooth gives 2 whereas the 17 gives 17 and the 19 gives 19, just a point to try and save you money in the long run. Miche are good so long as you check them regularly for wobbles. I'm running an 19T EAI (from hubjub.com) or 17t Miche (depends on which hills I need to get up).
Also the 17T will fit straight on without you having to alter the chain length (another plus if you can take the slight increase in gearing)
If you haven't had the lock ring/sprocket off that fuji yet you are going to have an evening of fun ahead of you, they are on pretty solidly from the factory (locktight) so might take some swearing to get it off.
    Enjoy.

  • I went from 15T to 18T without having to adjust chain length on my Fuji.
