  • I'm a small person. I'm 5'5" and I have short arms. I've currently got Nitto B123s on there. On the standard Fuji bars I was most comfortable on the drops, and on the Nittos I'm most comfortable on the tops. I'm pretty sure I've set them both at the same angle.

    I just can't get perfectly comfortable on the bike. It's annoying.

    Nitto drops and the bars that come stock on the Fuji are a completely different shape. They may be a different width too?

  • Yeah I know, the width is great on the Nittos. The Fuji bars were just too wide for me.

    The drop must be deeper on the Nittos, I haven't actually sized them up next to each other but riding on the drops on the Fuji bars let me see the road ahead but on the Nittos I feel like I'm craning my neck to look ahead.

    Honestly I have no idea what I 'should' be riding like because I don't have any sort of road riding background. It's only since about April that I started to really enjoy riding further distance where comfort is more important.

    Lots of people have said the 'best' riding position over longer periods is on the hoods but neither the Fuji or Nitto bars are comfortable at all on the hoods since there aren't actually any hoods there.

    I feel like a complete noob at the physical act of riding a road bike.

    Bingo! Yes, the drop on the Nitto's is deeper than the Fuji, but then again the B123's are intended for track cycling, whereas the Fuji are for road cycling, so what would you expect? :)

  • Bud you are walking all over me today...!

    I am at a loss what to do. I think a shorter stem and perhaps a switch back to the Fuji bars is in order.

  • It's a shame because to be honest the Nitto's look so much nicer than the Fuji's!

    But as long as you're comfy on your bike, that's all that ultimately matters.

  • what about a stem with a touch more rise angle? I got mine spot on comfy going a diff way though - short stem with bulls... gave me that stretch and slight drop when I wanted. It does sound like maybe the 52 might have been better though... sorry mate.

  • More rise on the stem will look a bit gash though, a bit hybrid-esque.

    And yes, the Nittos look fucking gorgeous compared to the stock Fuji bars.

  • I know it sounds retarded but I'm shit at measuring.

    lol. legendary quote :D

  • My Fuji just got further bastardised. Drops, aero levers, two brakes und freewheel.

    This is the fourth age of my Fuji. It has done everything bar offroader.

    I begin my 45 mile round-trip commute tomorrow, so I needed some aero tuckage.

    I think you should go back to the original setup, it's closer to a normal road bike bar. Ride with it for a bit (and I don't mean to the shops and back). See if you get used to it. You'll probably find you 'stretch-out' a bit the more riding you do.

    If you still feel the bars are wide then move down to some 40cm anatomic road bars (there are plenty and they're cheap). That way your changing one thing at a time rather than fucking up by fitting deep drop keirin bars!

    :0

    (BTW i have nothing against keirin drop bars)

  • them's wise words

  • Or you could swap your 54 with my 52, mine's a touch to small for me

    Just so you know;

    The B123 are Nitto standard track bar that are deep, as you know that.

    The B125 however, are basically the same as above but with less of a drop, I'm sure you can tell after having a close look at the picture below;

    B123;

    B125;

    last two are B123, and the two after that are B125;

    I think if you like the Nitto, check out the B125 out, it's perhaps more to your liking.

    Thanks for the advice. I'm going to actually do that rather than sit around wondering what to do.

    You must really think they're wise words!

    Interesting suggestion, what's your current setup? Might be worthwhile arranging a test ride on each others' bikes.

    Hmm.... That's handy to know but I think that just makes the whole matter more confusing.

  • well if you like your nitto bar but find the drop to be too deep, at least there's an option.

    netherless go with miro's advice, best way to find out what you want by riding with the original set-up for a short while.

  • Here´s my Fuji Track that´s rolling the streets of Stockholm, Sweden:

    IRO wheels, Truvativ Omnium crankset, Nitto bars with Ourys. I´m looking for a different saddle at the moment and might be getting a Charge Spoon.
    I really like the frame and definitely think it´s worth a few upgrades. :)

    Flipped stem, risers and a 1cm spacer, about as much as I can do before it starts looking silly. If your bars are 25.4 then it would pretty easy to swap them onto mine if you wanted to test them on a smaller frame.

  • Yeah i'm up for giving it a try out if you are? Where do you live?

  • I'm also trying to get hold of a 54 frame and forks so if anyone's bored of theirs let me know...

  • Sahf East, New Cross/Deptford, I'm about in central at around 6-7 most days if that helps?

  • does anyone know what size the steerer is?
