@ dammit nice work, you've made us all jealous with your new stealth rotations. so much so i've dug out some old spacers to fix my inadequacies... any chance of coming round tomorrow to borrow your hex keys?
in regards to the OP i've a Surly chain tugg i don't use if your interested? Weights a ton & doesn't really open beers effectively but gimmicks aside it does tugg a good chain.
I've fitted an MKS which does a great job, thanks though.
Feel free to pop over tomorrow and borrow tools- just give me a ring/text when you are on your way.

If the last post wasn't helpful enough... 27.2mm is the size you need.

I have a 2005/6 Fuji, now with Mavics, Nitto bars, Sugino Messenger and an old Wrights saddle. Been a good servant but now the seat post has completely clammed up.

Wotcha.
New to this - so cant post from scratch..
Been monitoring this forum for a while, - and will bore y'all with a question that keeps coming up..Bike to work scheme question - Just got into the track (Herne Hill) And would like a bike I can commute on, but also (potentially) use on the track.. Ridden a 56 Fuji and loved it..
I'd like to build from scratch, but cant ignore the 50% off the cycle scheme gets you + you pay it off over 12 months.. Bonus.
I have to use Evans... Was thinking
Fuji Track
Brooks Swallow
Shimano 105
Cane Creek Lever
Better tyres (Armadillos??)
18t cassette to commute..Plus I like the look of some soma major taylor bars with black tape.. but need to shop elsewhere..
Any thoughts? - will end up costing about 280 all in (cash over 12 months..). Not sure I can get a better deal from scratch, and I can upgrade from there.... (what else should I consider)
Was originally going for a genesis flyer - but cant stomach this years green....
Appreciate your views, and looking forward to associated sledging..

I think you have to add a link. After I installed my 18T Surly Cog I couldn't get the chain off, so I had to remove the Chainring. No struggle at all but with 19T i don't think you can even get your chain on.

i got my chain on but its pretty tight, can it be too tight?

Too tight and it will knacker the hub and/or BB bearings. Too loose and it will jump off.

whats the best cog for commuting (in general) was thinking about 18t..
what do you use?

I run 48x18 on my Fuji and it's great. 72". nice gear.

5 11 - and the 56 seemed right - but then so did the 54..
Going to take them out for a ride again to make sure..

has anyone tryed 28s?
-
• #1394
There should be enough clearance for 28's.
Never tried with mine, but there looks to be enough room. -

25 works.
28 is fine but you cannot use the forward half of the dropout because the tyre touches the brake bridge, posing a problem if you want to run double-fixed hubs with more than 1t difference on your sprocket. -

the half nearer the front?
-
• #1398
Funnily enough, yes.
i.e the rear axle will not be able to fit any further forward (towards the front of the bicycle) within the dropout than is shown here in figure 1.

25 will definitely work (it comes with 25s from the factory and I'm using Vittoria Pave Evos right now which are nominally 24s with plenty of clearance despite being at the front of the track ends due to 18t cog). With 28s you may run into the brake bridge or seat tube depending on how long your chain is, so you may wish to budget the extra seven quid or whatever for a new chain.
