Nope, I was hoping that swapping the sprocket would cure things.
I presume that the advised method for chain-ring flatness checking is to take the damn thing off and lay it on a flat surface?

It's never had a freewheel on it, it's the same way around as it came from the shop.

mark the level of a bathtub full of water.... submerge the wheel and mark the new water level. This will enable you to determine its mass through an equation taking into consideration the deplacement.
Yell "Eureka!"
Problem solved.

Picked up back of bike, span rear wheel, watched chainring like a hawk- appears to be flat.

Despite the sprocket and the chainring being the same distance from the centre line of the bike?

it can't be right, it looks about 2mm out.

• #1293
What about carefully pulling your crank further out on the spindle and spinning to see if it corrects the problem. If it does, you need a longer BB?

it could be that the chainring is portuguese, and the cog is brazilian. Sure, they seem like they'd work together, but they just never get on.

I've just changed the cog- now it's Japanese.

NJS or non-NJS? There's a difference but you can only tell when you've filled the bathtub.

and it can't be freshwater, it needs to match the salinity of the water in the sea nearest to the place of the chains manufacture, or you'll get an incorrect reading.
