  • Just built for my son as he is a cross racer with the Pure CX forks and there is nearly an inch toe overlap with the front wheel...
His SPD's are set as far forward as possible and he is running a 165mm crankset...
This appears to be the usual Made in Britain throw back to British Leyland design fault and for him the bike is un-rideable not to mention dangerous...
Everytime he makes contact the wheel shifts and creates brake rub (no matter how hard I tighten the skewer)...
The fork rake/frame geometry is wrong and I have contacted Kinesis. This is also the second frame as the first one was sent with excess paint spots and a crack in the cable tensioner thread... Now I know why I loved his Giant race bike...
The professional mechanic who built it up said he had seen nothing like it as my son rode off and nearly crashed. making a turn... I was thinking of a Pro 6 (no chance) and what a let down for the boy...
I posted this on the Kinesis Facebook page and they quickly took it down.

  • That's what happens when you ride a 48cm frame with 700c wheels. He'll get used to it.

The toe overlap doesn't even look very severe.

  • I have to agree with JB, isn't toe overlap to be expected?

  • Does that match what you have been sold?
Just want to establish what you mean by "the geometry is wrong" as in you didn't look at the geo chart first before buying? or it doesn't match the chart?

  • What was the response from Kinesis when you asked to return it?

  • Any CX frame in that size will have toe overlap. You have two choices, 1 get a 56+ frame or 2 get a frame with a rake angle so shit as to remove the ability to steer effectively.
Even TDF riders have toe overlap, your son will soon learn to deal with it (ie briefly stop pedalling and put all your weight on the outside foot when making a sharp turn).

  • This ^.

I'm afraid toe overlap is virtually unavoidable in a frame this size with 700c wheels, and 650c wheels aren't an option due to the lack of available cx tyres in that size.

  • Geometry look pretty good considering smaller frame are much longer I reach.

    Buy an Islabikes instead?

  • I was just about to post "48cm.. um.." but I see you lot have this covered.

He just needs to adjust his technique.

  • A lot of women's bikes running 700c tyres have toe overlap. Toe overlap itself is not unexpected with small frames

  • Could you not get 26" wheels and shop around for appropriate mtb tyres maybe some Mavic cross rides

  • No. Because; brakes, bb height.

  • The biggest advantage your son have is that he's still growing.

  • What size frame on the kinesis?

  • ignore me.
