  • I've changed bikes a bit - here is an update for those of you who know me: ALBUM
Brian Rourke AKA 'Birds Custard Bike':

1997 mystery Russian Ti SS MTB:

And courtesy of BoBoB: Arthur Gaykill TT frame:

  • ^^^ bikes for giants. Provenrad, you got any white brake outer cable going spare?

  • yes - enough for a front brake only though.. ;-)

  • how does that caygill ride?
    it looks v. nice.

  • The mountain's looking nice dude. You're going to be leaving me for dust.

STIFF and quick steering - after putting the riser bars + shorter stem it is a really decent fit, despite the big saddle-bar drop. it was quite a pain configuring the aero TT geometry into something rideable..
Stiffness is very noticeable, even comparing 753 vs. columbus slx on the Rourke.
Arthur Scargill has shorter chainstays, chunkier seatstays, and the pearlescent paint weighs very little too.

We'll see my friend! It may need some springs at the front soon... :-/

  • me, asm and dale were in cavandish cycles same time as you on friday. Lovely frame and paint job.

  • ...and edwin and rosie :)

don't think you had 2 aeroblokes on it then though. One on the front and some form of colourful phil on the back? or was it t'other way round.

SHIT I'M MEETING SAM IN 20 MINUTES AND I'M NOT EVEN DRESSED

  • The bikes:

The man (I sort of look like an average of these two photos at the moment):

Thanks to the people that helped with the Kiyo (special props to Hassan and Matt "Small Brown Bike") and a big shout out to the forum people I have already met. Say hi if you see me over taking you on the Essex Road/Euston Road because you never know, I might let you ride my back wheel for a bit...

Oh, and if anyone is wanting to ride some street on heavy little bikes, give me a shout.

  • mmm, very nice all built up, did you find your chain tugs (hah!) :)
    the bottom photo wins though.

  • I might let you ride my back wheel for a bit....

Forget riding rear wheels, how much for a moustache ride?? Wowza!

  • hey hey
heres my first fixed wheel that got passed down in the family
its like 50 years old all original apart from stem bars and grips
    enjoy

  • This is my bike, a beautiful Guerciotti puppy killer currently sporting an ugly mismatch of parts...

And me. The second picture is taken at Cranks, where I wrench.

I'm soon to restore the Guerciotti to it's full Campag roady glory, and fix the Basso lo-pro that's peeping over my shoulder above.

Puppies will be reborn, more puppies will die..

  • Tom., what's your experience with the clamp-on brake? I tried one on my Makino (the Shimano one, not the Diacomte) and it wasn't working very well. The front wheel was vibrating quite a bit and it was really hard to get the clamps on the fork. Does yours work better and what you use to protect the fork paint? I took mine off now, don't really use it but would feel safer for rare emergency moments. Thinking of getting the Diacompte one...

I've found it OK actually. There is a little screw at the top that pushes the top of the metal plate away from the fork crown, so there isn't really any scope for vibration. That said, I'm not trying to pull big endos with it or anything!

As for protecting the paint, it's really snug so I wasn't able to fit any inner tube between the silver clamp and the forks, but it seems like it's not going to move, so I've got my fingers crossed for minimal paint damage. the bit which does the clamp is rubber coated, so that should be fine.

  • cheers Tom. my problem was more that the end of the fork and the wheel vibrates, not the brake itself. So I gues you haven't noticed that. Do you think there is enough room for a bit of tape underneath it innertube doesn't fit? Really nice bike by the way.

You might be able to get some very thin tape underneath, although I guess it all depends on the diameter of your fork blades.

As for the vibration thing, I think that it sounds like you've just got fairly flexy forks and chances are that any brake you fit will cause juddering.

  • LOOK AT THAT GIRRAFES COCK!

  • oh also have a federal nation bmx. and an e.t. pet

  • who let you tape me and provs secrete fuck sessions?

  • I was hoping no one would bring up that photo again.

I went to a photograhic gallery yesterday, drank beer and then clearly thought I was some sort of photographer. Cue blurry, out of focus photos, that don't show the bits you want to see. But HHSB #1 is finished.
