woot, sexy rider and sexy bike! ;)
re-centre that front wheel :P

trust you to say something like that.

It's got some major scratches on the inside of the chainstays (from storage, Rob said) - but I'm a dab hand at mixing up modelling enamel so I should be able to match that (I hope). The auction photos really didn't do it justice Sammy Dodger - I think I actually got a bargain for an almost complete bike.
Dale thanks yeah I noticed the wheel, it needs a bit of a onceover before its road worthy, but otherwise the wheels are really good. The rims are Campag Melbourne 56's - I don't know how they'll deal with the streets but at least I'm finally riding wheels of a regular size, yay! Ah, walking into a bike shop and knowing they'll definitely have a tube for me....
Tomasito - as long as Agata doesn't want the stem, should be good for it. I don't know how to measure a stem but it's 13cm from the centre of the allenkey bit to the beginning of the clamp. I don't know what the clamp size is though. It's an ITM eclypse
Now, what the hell kind of bars do I put on it? I love drops...but when I stop and step down at red lights, my knees are going to get tangled up in drops because the top tube is so short. I want to keep it classic but at the moment I'm thinking either chopped straight bars or Nitto risers...

loverly bike vic, nitto risers fnckit!! :)
-
• #1756
vic: that is a beautiful bike.. but eh? the front wheel looks to be a bit not-true or out of dish? or is that just the photo?
-
• #1757
It's true, it just needs recentring. What Dale (dogsballs) said.
-
• #1758
How about moustache for no knee tangles? Or just don't stop ;)
-
• #1759
I don't see the point in moustache bars actually - you have to practically dislocate your wrists to use the tache bits! Imho, superfluous. Anyone who has them feel free to enlighten me though ;D. Up until last week it didn't even have pedals so stopping wasn't an issue - because neither was moving. Not stopping...hmm, inevitable on my commute. Even trackstanding, the drops are in the way. The search goes on.
I suppose because I don't have hardly any decisions to make about this bike, I am overthinking the ones I do have to make, like stem, bars, brake lever.

bullhorns?

• #1761
that is a sweet ride vic. my vote is with risers or flats. and enjoy 'overthinking' it, we all do ;)
-
• #1762
non japanese risers on a non japanese stem? ;)
grabbing nitto bits from the shop would be simple and effective, even FGL risers would look ace. since i think there'll be some 'trial and error' in the stem etc just grab something convenient for now and maybe change it later for that 'must have'.
sexy bike by the way sexy lady.

Mayhap actually yes, do you think they would they suit this bike? I never considered them before, so thanks Object.
-
• #1764
Yes Vic you have a point, moustaches do look uncomfortable... I've never used em. BillB was saying they seem a bit flexy too. What about chopping some drops off?

sweet ride vic.

• #1771
hey vic: sweet bike - will you be bringing it to the track when the season starts?
btw, what size frame is it? I'm vaguely looking for a small frame for a girl about
5'4" or 5'5" and I'm not really sure what size would work. And what's the rationale
behine the seat stays crossing the seat tube deal? -
• #1772
Vic, the bike is gorgeous. If you love drops then don't change the bars. Trackstands in the kitchen lead to not having to put your foot down at red lights.
If Tomasito doesn't want the stem, then I'd be interested. Having said that, I'd probably keep it as it is -
• #1773
Lovely bike vic! I want a flying gate frame so bad...
-
• #1774
Oddsock I don't really know much about track racing but I'd definitely like to do something like that with it yes. This is my 'serious' bike. I guess I need to investigate the track more. It's a 46cm frame, with a standover of 73cm - the bb being so high off the ground. I'm 5'2", and my other bike is a 46cm with a much lower bb - depends how long your friend's legs are really but both my bikes are way too small for people taller than me. I imagine somewhere around 49-52cm would be suitable for someone of 5'4". I don't think there's a real reason for the seat stays crossing over - does anyone know? Looking at it, I think if they met at the back they would have to taper in too much to be able to fit the wheel in (since the wheel is close to the height of the top tube), if that makes sense.
