• How can a discussion on eBay strategies come so close to Godwin'ing a thread so quickly!

  • Ebay's full of right-wing bid extremists.

  • bid big, bid early.. flush out other bidders maximum, see where the reserve is set, then cancel your bid.

    walk away with nothing

  • Can anyone tell me where i can find a list of how much something goes for on average/finished auctions?

  • Click "Completed listings" on the search results page. You'll have to log in if you aren't already.

  • Perfect. Cheers!

  • Anyone got refunds for Item Not As Described disputes? How long did it take them to cough up?

Some fuckwit in Wales has had my £380 for a month now, the phone was received back by them the day after I found it was shitted. Ebay case has been opened and just says "you don't need to do anything".

Well, after a month I'm thinking I do need to do something. What about trying to reverse the funds within paypal? Or is there a timeframe I should wait for this fuckstain to cough my money back?

  • 45 Day limit on paypal reversals I think, just bear that in mind

This says: Select the "Refund Payment" button at the bottom of the screen. This takes you to another page and lets you reverse the payment. Type in the total amount you want to refund to the buyer using the information you wrote down earlier, and press submit.

But there's no option in my paypal.

  • hippy: that eHow page says:
"If you're a buyer and need to reverse payment to a seller, log into your account and look at the transaction. Select the details and choose the "Refund Payment" button. But this only works if the seller hasn't yet claimed the money, which is shown by an Unclaimed icon. If the seller already claimed the item, you'll need to formally dispute the charges."

MacReady's right about the 45 days after payment:
    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/seller-protection-faq.html#Is%20there%20a%20time%20limit%20for%20a%20buyer%20to%20place%20a%20case?

    There might be wriggle room:
"Exceptions may be made to buyers based on factors such as member account information, listing information, item location and postal method."

I'd try contacting the eBay customer support...

    Good luck.

  • You don't need to contact customer support. You need to open a dispute. The seller has time to respond - if he doesn't respond in time, then you step it up to a claim. PayPal will investigate the transaction and in most cases will refund the payment. You can't make a claim earlier than 20 days after the transaction. Or something like that. I've done it many times.

  • EEI: Dispute has been opened already. Apart from that, you're right. I got mixed up with the time periods.

hippy: Do you have proof that the phone was returned (tracking, signature)? If not, do you have any correspondence confirming receipt?

  • I know, I'm writing about the procedure. Dispute and claim aren't the same.

  • Isn't opening a case the same as opening a dispute?

Yep, tracking number has been submitted. The phone was delivered back to them the day after I got it.
It's all "now we are just waiting for seller to refund you" except I'm hearing nothing more from them or ebay so I want to know how long to wait before I have to schedule a trip to Wales to collect in person.

  • Your case details

    Case open: Escalated

You don't need to do anything else.

You've provided tracking information and will be refunded when the item is delivered to the seller.

  • If you pay via PayPal for an eBay transaction, PayPal are the ones who deal with the complaint.

How long ago did you escalate? It can take up to 30 days for PayPal to decide. You can check status in the PayPal resolution centre.

Does the tracking info show that it was returned over a month ago?

  • No, Ebay deal with it.
I paid with paypal, ebay handle the complaint. I tried raising a case within my paypal account and it said it'd already been done and should be managed within ebay.

The Royal Mail tracking thing doesn't show when it was delivered but it was sent on the same day as I received it as Next Day. I was told it would be there by 1pm the day after I'd sent it back. That was a month ago.

  • ebay = paypal.
Send ebay customer services an email, I've found them to be quick to reply.
I opened an ebay dispute on the 3rd and this is part of the email I got from them.

    "Here's what happened:

You opened an eBay Buyer Protection case for cycling road wheels.

Here's what you have to do next:

Try to work things out with the seller. If you don't hear back by 12 Sep, 2011, you can escalate this case to Customer Support.

    What you should know:

This case will automatically close on 18 Oct, 2011."

did you go past that stage?

  • Yes. That's the bit where they hope you and the seller will work it out.
This stage failed due to my seller being a thieving fuckhead.
So, then I say to ebay "Hey guys, this fuckhead stole my money" and they say "oh noes, let sort it out. Send back the item and we will get you your money back."
I'd already sent the item back so provided ebay with the tracking number which they confirmed and blah blah.. where's my fucking money?

  • Isn't opening a case the same as opening a dispute?

But it's not the same as escalating to a claim.

  • got a copy of the postage receipt?

  • Hippy, you need to escalate the dispute!

  • got a copy of the postage receipt?

Yes. That's where I got the code from that I submitted to ebay.

  • Hippy, you need to escalate the dispute!

    How? I've already escalated it.
It went from, "item not as described" "oh sort it out amongst yourselves"
to "no really, I want my fcuking money back" "oh, well prove that you sent it back then"
