  • Great stage indeed. Jurgen Van den broeck is clearly also still in the race.

  • Rash move by Evans, I reckon he dumped more energy in that attack than Wiggins did in the catch.

  • Cadel looks stronger this year than he did this time last year. Still lots of excitement to come.

Looking forward to the tt tomorrow.

  • Not sure Evans was a rash move - and good to see the defending champ attacking. It's going to be attrition from here on in and we aren't even in the mountains yet.

  • I'd like to see another [edit]real[/edit] mountain stage tomorrow, don't think the tt will be very exciting.

  • This commentary...

    ITV ? pathetic!

  • Awesome stage, gonna start muting the audio tho.

  • Eurosport commentary is good value

  • My bandwidth gave out just after Evan's jump. How did the chasedown happen? Wiggins, Froome, the group or did Evans just run our of juice?

  • the tv coverage was on the stage winner so it was unclear as to who/how Evans was chased down

  • That would be Evans, the Canadian, according to the commentary.

  • 90% of the time Phil Liggett is incorrect, he is also an annoying cunt.

  • Poor Sammy.

    ^this

Froome going beyond the call of duty, and almost beyond the tarmac on the final descent today. Total champ. He can TT too.

  • Best news of the day is that Sky are out of those daft helmets and that RSNT are in.

as for reigning in Evans I think Wiggins did that himself

  • 90% of the time Phil Liggett is incorrect, he is also an annoying cunt.

Surely he can't carry on after this year, he's completely lost it. Must be super confusing for anyone watching who is new to the sport

  • Tweeted by Richard Moore: Wiggins, asked about those who accuse him of doping: "I say they're just f*cking wankers. I cannot be doing with people like that..."

    Quality

There's more: "It justifies their own bone-idleness because they can't ever imagine applying themselves to do anything in their lives.....It's easy for them to sit under a pseudonym on Twitter and write that sort of shit, rather than get off their arses in their own lives...and apply themselves and work hard at something and achieve something. And that's ultimately it. C*nts"

After seeing the hate at places like the Clinic, and imagining the sort of stuff said on Twitter, my admiration for Wiggins just went up a couple of notches

  • Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

  • T-V, he's talking about you

  • Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

    Jog onwards Queen Gertrude.

  • Oh do fuck off.

It is the responsibility of elite level athletes to act professionally and part of that is handling yourself with dignity in public. Wiggins is a good cyclist, but A star wanker. If he thinks his performances don't merit legitimate questioning in a sport that has a bit if a history with doping he needs to grow up.

  • I think his point is the difference between legitimate and illegitimate questioning... I think it comes back to the old "guilty until proved innocent" mindset that seems to pervade doping discussions. To be honest I have no idea about his drug testing history but I haven't heard any compelling arguments to suggest he isn't clean - I mean it's not like he's come from nowhere.

  • I don't think he was referring to 'legitimate questions' now was he, and as for acting 'professionally' I've always liked my sportsmen to show a human, passionate side. I don't need role models, I want to watch warriors who perform and sometimes talk with heart.

I googled 'Bradley Wiggins doping' the other day and came accross this article from 2007 when Cofidis got thrown off the tour after Moreni tested positive. A while ago yes but the passionate way he talked about doping really struck home, and I think today's statement shows more of the same. You seemedto be damned if you do and damned if you don't in cycling: if you confront the innuedo you're hiding something and if you ignore it and don't make big anti-doping statements you're guilty. Read the article, worth a look.

  • Oh come on.

Lets all just say well done Pinot - 22 years old. And winning the stage for FDJ and France!

  • Yeah - I know that article.

I think the only response is to patiently and repeatedly explain why your performance is credible supported by biological data. Sky have tried to do that, so sticking to that approach would serve him and the team best. Outbursts give the impression of something to hide unfortunately.

  • Well done Pinot.
