I thought Cavendish had lost weight?

Really enjoy the Scott Mitchell galleries, and it's not the sort of thing I'd normally post - he's getting a good job done after all - but within the context of focussing on Olympic gold you'd have to favour a real head-banger classics rider for the course.

If he was really, really comfortable he'd have gone FTW, no?
Not really no. He only had to keep level with Evans to get the Yellow Jersey. Then there's today's stage which contains a bunch of cat 2s and a cat 1 climb in it. With a downhill finish it's not really a key stage for the GC but he'll have wanted to save energy for that in case of any problems. Tomorrow is the ITT where Wiggins will most likely put more time into Evans and build on his lead.
You could say that he doesn't have the legs for it and Evans is going to hit him on a climb. That might be true but at the moment he has to take him for ten seconds, which he didn't manage on a comparatively small climb. After tomorrow he'll probably have to take him for more.
The other view is that this is a long game play. You don't put in the work when you don't have to. There would have been no point in trying to win yesterday at the risk of compromising the Yellow Jersey overall. I have no doubt that Wiggins would dearly love a stage win, but he want the overall win a lot more. Stage ambitions will probably come in the final week.
Froome to go out in pursuit of KOM points today I reckon with the GC sticking in the peleton. This will probably be the day for the breakaway to stay away.

If Froome goes chasing KOM points I think Dave Brailsford will break his legs.

Everyone suffered on the climb yesterday. Some people bleated about it in the press and on Twitter.
What did Sagan do at the top?
What a fucking great bloke! I've gone from hating him to being a fanboy! -

I don't reckon so. There's an ITT tomorrow followed by a rest day so it shouldn't matter and if Froome can mop up some points now he place well in the KOM by working for Wiggins later.
Thought that breakaway would stay out there. Perhaps a little too big.

What a fucking great bloke! I've gone from hating him to being a fanboy! The guy is seriously talented for someone so young - I've never seen such a convincing impression of a slice of keylime pie. Cav needs to take note and work on his knickerbockerglory if he's going to have any chance of a look in.

I think this is the problem with not having time bonuses. Really favours a conservative approach from the high GC riders, and doesnt make for enchanting racing.

Sammy Sanchez out :-(
Thanks to his own teammate??

Sanchez looks fucked....
Why did he need to? Today was about getting the yellow and satying with Cadel. His domestique got the win, good to share the glory. Froome with shortly be Sky's favoured son: reckon he'll get their their backing for the Vuelta. and so on. Not yet the ITer to take GC at the Tour
