  • That is incorrect.

  • That is incorrect.

    how so?

  • i like wiggins but the main reason he won is because andy's out :b

andy?! tell me you're not serious mate.. :-D

  • andy schleck should have won last year and this year

  • how so?

This was a parcours that massively favoured a strategy of taking time in the ITT's and defending in the mountains, where there were few mountain top finishes.

Wiggins would have taken 5 minutes plus in ITTs on Schleck, who could never have hoped to recoup those losses in the mountains.

  • @TheFranticMonkey

You mean he should have gone faster in the TTs?

  • andy schleck should have won last year and this year

    Is that you Frank?

  • Cyclingfans.com reckons finish at 4.20. Seems too long? Though I guess they aren't racing today.

  • There's already lots of sort of 'now he has to go and do it at the Olympics' type comments. As if the Olympics is more important the the Tour, do any cycling fans really give a crap about the Olympics compared to a Tour win? Probably just newspapers getting jingoistic, the Tour's grubby trade, the Olympics is for country. Bollocks to them.

  • It would've been interesting to see how he did all the same. His team did suffer disadvantages (minus Frank and Fabian)

  • Admittably my username is an angram for frank. ;)

  • No it's not.

  • *fran*icmon*k*ey sort of?

  • My father passed away two years ago today aged just 52. During his last weeks we watched the tour together, I wasn't hugely into it at the time, but my Dad was a cycling nut. He never learnt to drive and put in thousands and thousands of miles across the UK and Europe.

I've been glued to the tour this year, always aware of the date of the final stage, my enjoyment of it being equally impacted by Wiggins' stunning performance and as a sort of tribute to my Dad.

We're having a get together in his old local tonight and shall we be toasting Wiggins success as we reminise.

  • No it's an anagram of "Enhance From Kitty" which I assume is the name of the new dope he's been using.

  • Wiggins-Froome-EBH-Cav team pursuit from 8k out to put minutes into the rest of the peloton

  • Wiggins should have won it last year, if it wasn't for his crash.

Hugely emotional day yesterday, felt myself tearing up more than a few times, and getting goosebumps everytime think about it. Massively proud of Sky's achievement, because it was a huge team effort.

EBH was immense, once Suitsov broke his leg he took his role and put massive turns on the front early doors in the mountains. Knees and Eisel did a lot of work at the front too on the fatter sections, then Porte and Rogers just set such a massive pace on the climbs, not only preventing attacks but shedding a lot of the contenders.

Then there is Froome. At the end of the day Evans, Nibali and Van den Broeck were riding against two men, a ridiculously strong duopoly that they just couldn't dent. Amazing show from beginning to end.

And there's Cav, left to his own devices but still has won 2 stages and might have won two more but for a crash. And maybe will grab his third today.

  • So who else is already getting all emotional?

We have a British winner of Le Tour!

Bradley Wiggins has actually done it!

I've got to admit I have.
    It's bloody fantastic!
I never thought I would ever see it.

  • But for 7 seconds he could have worn yellow throughout. Think about that.

  • Is there a rule stopping a team entering with a yellow kit?

  • probably yes, at the end of the day they are still french...

  • *When a team's uniform includes so much yellow that it looks too similar to the yellow jersey, TdF organisers ask the teams come to the race with a different look. *

*During the team time trial however, this rule does not apply, and the team reverts back to its standard team uniform. *

In past years both ONCE and Mercatone Uno were required to change their outfits from yellow to pink.

  • I suspect that if you pushed the issue that the UCI would produce some grey uniform for the riders to wear.
