  • Quite moved by the whole idea. Yesterday at the oval test match the winners of the saturday fancy dress competition was a group dressed as team sky with a bloke in yellow jersey and side burns.

    Csb

  • So is a British fella winning LTdF bigger than a British fella winning Wimbledon?

  • His post ride interview was very touching. His description of thinking about family members in the last 15km and how his life so far has culminated in yesterday's effort.

It was lucky I was chopping onions when that interview came on.

    sniff

    We'll probably never know.

Yes, a British man has already won Wimbledon.

    Define 'bigger'

It is to me. 109 years of history and a physical feat impossible to almost all human beings.

    Go on Bradley.

  • laminated and put in a 'special place'

  • Defo bigger, Wiggins is much taller than Perry

Joking aside, bigger 'achievement' most certainly

  • 'God save our gracious Queen' being played on the Champs Elysees!
Love it! At last a top rider from these shores has won it after over a 100 years!
    Well done Bradley!

  • Tennis like football and tiddlywinks is a game and in my world is not really comparable, I am happy for others to try and draw some sort of comparison but I just cannot see it.

  • The obvious difference is Tennis is part of British culture, cycle racing has always been a continental thing.

  • That could now be set to change.
Chris Boardman made a good point yesterday about how this will impact cycling culture in Britain.

  • couldn't agree more and with that the cyclist is treated with more respect on the continent than here and hopefully things will change more with time...

    5 years after it happened...
The 21st Century temporary cycling boom has been going on since at least 2007. Wiggos Tour is a result of this, not a cause.

  • but maybe this will continue to drive the change...

What time are they expected on the champs d'elysees? I really want to find somewhere with good enough internet for live coverage!!

  • Agreed mdcc, but we still have a very long way to go. Still not many towns like Oxford.

Spot on. Olympic success was a big part of it as well (obviously).

Also want to know this. I'm calling a break on my work today to find a pub or a betting shop to watch the last bit.

  • I think coverage should be starting around 2pm on either ITV1 or ITV4...

  • it does but when does the showboating end and the Paris Crit begin?

  • My girlfriend has pointed out that my tattoo is suddenly relevant.

It's a TdF rider from the Kraftwerk album cover riding over a mod target from the Quadrophenia album cover.

Would never have thought an Englishman would win.

Feeling very proud of Wiggins as it sinks in.

  • here we go!

  • Dunno if anyone saw my post earlier (previous page) but I am still very curious to know the history of the non-competing on the last stage (aside from sprints), and in more detail on what would happen if Wiggins / and Froome crashed, and / or Liquigas broke with tradition?

What would the peleton do if Wiggins and Froome hit the deck? What if they hit the deck and Liquigas decided to go for it?

    Who knows?

In a tour he lost Eddy Merckx attacked until the finish on the final day because he felt they should race until the end.

Simeoni attacked when USPS were doing the obligatory champagne shots in 2004, and they had to toss the flutes and chase.

No racing on the final day is a myth, but it is highly unusual because you can't hope to pull out the required time on GC on a flat stage.

  • i like wiggins but the main reason he won is because andy's out :b
