..So I've gone back to my San Marco Rolls which is better but still not hugely comfortable. Should I give the B17 a go or just give on Brooks?
Have you measured your sit bones?
If you go to an Evans there will be a specialized arse measuring thing. Get your measurements and then double check off that.
I've got a B17 narrow, which was secondhand and I've found really comfy. However, even tho it's called 'narrow', it's still 151mm wide - which is waaaaaayy bigger than the 130mmish Roll's which I tired (and destroyed my arse), and still wider than my flite (143mm I think).
So my advice would be to do some measuring. If you want I'd be happy to lend you the B17 narrow for a week or two.

I've been riding a Brooks Swift for about 4 months now and it's not really getting comfy at all. I started by giving it the Neatsfoot Oil treatment following the instructions by Sheldon Brown. I have tweaked the position many times but it's just not happening. So I've gone back to my San Marco Rolls which is better but still not hugely comfortable. Should I give the B17 a go or just give on Brooks?
Likewise had problems with the Swift, as it started to break in the metal frame began to dig in, never had any problems with my B17 thought. Shame because they look gorgeous

Oh and I ride a 143 Romin on the road bike if that helps?

By reputation Swift is the softest Brooks (with Team Pro being the firmest) - could be why frame has started digging in. Could try regular tensioning.

Cheers guys. I wish I hadn't used the Neatsfoot oil now. The honey coloured Swift is now more like a conker brown. Hope I haven't knackered it.
So basically give the B17 a go and get my arse measured. Hugo, I'd love to try out the B17 but I do leave my bike locked up when I teach yoga so would worry about it getting nicked. When I first got my Swift I used to take out the saddle and seatpost when I locked it up. But then after a few weeks I couldn't be bothered. Luckily I still have it. Maybe not too many saddle thieves round Kensington and Knightsbridge.

Is there a DIY arse measuring method?

some suggestions here on DIY measuring, but what to do with the measurement then?

arup, just use a ball bearing and glue that in the seatpost/seatbolt.

brooks saddles are all made with the same leather thickness, with the exception of the new organic ones.

one of these may be in my future.
important question.... are they a fair weather friend only? How well do they handle the wet with out fenders? What about winter time?

Use mudguards.
And...
They're made in the UK. I hear moisture is an issue out there.
It'll be fine. -

baked goods? where?
My Team Pro Classic started off getting comfy, then more uncomfortable as it got broken in - as the "butt cheek" dimples formed it dug more into my jelly wobbly bits. Shame, coz I really wanted it to work out, looked nice on my bike. Gone back to an el cheapo Spoon on my SS... oh well...
