The Met Office err on the side of caution though Tommy, ever since they got caught with their trousers down in 1987.

I remember that, I think my parent chimney caught fire that night

I slept right through the storm- a branch came off the (old, enormous) conker tree over the road and crushed a mini.
I was extremely surprised when I woke up.

My window blew in, took the council 6 months to come 'round and replace the board with a new pane of glass... The coldest (and darkest) winter I've experienced... -

I too slept through that storm but was only a few weeks old. Apparently my grandparents garage door flew off and ended up down the street.

In 1987 I was eleven, so about to leave Compton, having escaped the purgatory that was Stanmore, on my way to Westgate*.
*Depending on what month it was, I do not recall

Nowt wrong with Stanmore that a thermonuclear device couldn't solve.
I feel old, I struggled to get to work the day after that storm due to fallen trees.

My parents house is in St Cross, which is separated from Stanmore by the railway line.
Therefore the roads that travel between the two parishes go below railway arches.
I long wished for them to be bricked up.

That 99 mph wind should be fun.
