  • I've been having more bad luck with mine, the front went down again despite the Pit Stop which I'd used in it before. I managed to get a pair of new Sprinters on Ebay for relatively cheap last week, so I'm going to get those fitted and hope I can finally start enjoying Tub Life.

  • There was quite a few OH OH glass moments after the gay pride parade/summer drinkers on the street but so far so good, hope they work out for you.

  • My sealant fixed corsa cx blew up again yesterday. Luckily I wasn't far from home and managed to get my missus to bring me a different wheel. Tonight I will have my first experience of removing tufo tape, fun times!

  • One evening this week I need to strip my (Jantex taped) Gators off the commuter wheelset and glue on some fresh tubs.

    If anyone has a wheel truing stand they don't want please let me know.

  • One ride to work and already a 1 cm cut (but no p_nctr) on the Gatorskins. Can't people clean up their f-ing mess???

    I enjoyed gluing mine and it leaves you enough time to straighten the tub on the wheel, but it's a tad messy for sure.

    The tubs held on with tape tend to move fore/aft a bit when hot - which doesn't fill me with confidence, so I'm going to glue them on.

    You should splice the main brace and shore up for fo'castle if that happens.

    I've had a go at gluing before but I was never happy with the job I did of it. When it came time to centering, it seemed that the glue hardened and became really hard to move in a very short space of time. Is it ok to keep forcing the tyre around for centering during this time? I was worried that I would compromise the strength of the glue so I stopped, and ended up with a slightly wobbly tyre.

  • It was Continental Alu rims glue, I was worried a tad the one that needed a lot of fibbing about would feel loose but so far so good. It took at least half an hour of f-ing about.

    I did use the required 3 layers though with extra Snot Glue and the rim was clean/tires new and it wasn't very warm. Maybe it goes sticky earlier with other brands/when warm.

    I don't do crazy riding though just flat roads, track/CX it may be more critical perhaps. A bit earlier in thread people talk about different glue brands some set much faster.

  • So I've found a Tri spoke and I need to glue a tub to it.
    I don't want to do it. It's veloflex record and I know the glue job will affect the ccr.

    Who can I take it too in london to do a top fucking draw job? Closer to SW16 the better, but I'll drive to the right place. Scherrit? Anyone else?

  • Cadence maybe? I've no experience of their gluing abilities, but their workshop seems to be very well equiped and generally very busy with decent bikes.

  • Thanks, just called them. Chap was honest and said he's okay but the other guys better and they've fitted in the region of ~20tubs each. So not what i'd consider crack expert. Wanted someone who's done 100s. Like a Master Carpenter, but for tubs.

  • Conti clinchers aren't fantastic, I quite like their tubs though.

  • I've a pair of sportcontacts from Conti good against the p_nct_rs but quite a harsh ride, the Gatorskin tubs are very comfy though even on shitty Belfast Roads.

    Their made in Germany stuff has good labor conditions/environmental conditions going for it.

    Learn to do it yourself. Just follow my instructions and use common sense. Its not rocket science and easier, I think, than mounting nylon HP clinchers-- such as Conti Grand-Prix tyres. Perhaps start off with some good cotton tubulars (for example from Veloflex, FMB, etc.) as they are easier to mount.

    Yes and are great tyres.... just the nylon tyres are a real pain !@!# to mount.

    I'm no cognescenti of clinchers but the old Paribas seemed quite nice--- have some on touring clincher wheels.

    Is it really 'easy'? I mean I'd be happy to do it on any old normal wheel for racing. But for a TT wheel, where every seconds counts...

    Where are you instructions? I've read the Weightweenies ones. Maybe I'll have a crack.

  • Forgive my ignorance, but can someone explain how the glue effects cRR? Not doubting that it does, I just can't get my head around it.

  • The tyre can move a tiny amount instead of transmitting drive. Must be a bloody small lose.

    I'm about to lose my tub virginity with conti carbon glue and an extra wide rim gluing surface. I can see myself getting sweary.
