  • Got a new pair from eBay yesterday for £65 posted.

    Still felt pricey though

  • Conti sprinter gatorskin will do the same job for a bit less cost.

Not sure...so far 2 p_nct_r_s already on the road. Unless your road isn't a public glassbin, it may have to be the comps.

  • Can anyone here recommend me a decent, durable tub for 50/50 use on track (concrete - and im not really racing, just blasting around) and road?

Continental Steher is the priority is more track than road... Conti Competition is the priority is more road than track.. and Conti Sprinter is the budget choice. I'd steer clear of the Sprinter Gatorskin. Its a good tyre for the road but suboptimal for the track. Another choice is to just get a set of wheels for the track and maybe the way there.. Tempos could be OK here..

  • Where is the cheapest source of Gatorskins these days.

The same, I think, as the cheapest source for the standard Sprinter... The usual choices are Velo Motion (CH and DE/CH border) and Bike Palast (Rolf Gölz's shop). Both are under 35 EURO + shipping.

  • I'm debating whether I'm actually getting any value out of the Gator, as opposed to just getting sprinters?

  • £35 each for Sprinter Gators on Wiggle, just picked up a pair.

My tarck bike now has 1,500 miles on the rear and 3,000 miles on the front- time to retire them both soon I suspect.

  • Sorry Dammit I bet you've been asked this a million times here: I want something rideable for a weight weenie Sunday best bike. I was thinking Comps. But you reckon Sprinter Gators are good? I don't mind paying more for something lighter.. etc.

  • Meh, ignore me I'll just get the Comps.

  • If it's for Sunday bike I'd go for Vittoria Evo Corsa 320 TPI's (high summer) or Veloflex Carbon (Spring and Autumn, as well as summer).

I commute on Sprinter Gators, and for that they do well, but for a Sunday bike I'd want something with a higher thread count and a latex tube.

I did like the Comps I had, but the price makes me shy away from them- for that money I'd get Veloflex.

  • Veloflex Carbon rear, veloflex extreme front.

I may go Extreme front and rear when I replace mine.

If I dont get all flash and buy the black FMBs.

Not much in the way of Pun*?ures up here though.

  • Whats the significace of higher TPI and a latex lining?

    #tubnoob

  • Oh yeah and I like the total blackness of the Comps in my link above!

  • Higher TPI carcass, and latex inner leads to easier deformation, and thus better grip and less rolling resistance at a given PSI.

  • Ok, cheers.

  • Veloflex Extreme have a massive 350 TPI, and dispite being claimed at 240g. The two I weighed were 228g and 231g.

  • Thanks SF.

TPI is overrated. Its like digital cameras talking about Mpixels or computers talking about cores and Mhz. They don't tell the complete or real story.. Tyre design is also not just about minimizing rolling resistance but also finding a balance with comfort, reliability, weight, fault tolerance, traction, wear and robustness. And grip? That's a function of the rubber.

FMB silks. Totally ill-suited to wet days but neither are silk top hats for a day at Ascot...

  • I am working on getting the stuff I need to glue my first set off cx tubulars.

I using Stu Thornes method, using belgian tape but I am not really in luck getting Vittoria Mastik One glue. All the danish dealers I have been in contact with do not stock it anymore and their suppliers have stopped importing it. So my question is: What will be a good enough replacement?

    LBS tried selling me this

If anybody knows a good european importer that has Mastik One in stock (the big cans) I would like a link please... Thank you

  • Worth checking they have it in stock, but High On Bikes have always been excellent when I've dealt with them;

  • Vittoria tub glue is infinitely better than the Conti stuff IMO

  • Thanks for input. I found it here http://www.dewielershop.nl/tools-maintenance/diverse/vittoria-mastik-one-tube-kit-blik.html
Shipping is the same as the actual product though... Guess I just have to shop some more ;-)

    Yes.

But I was just giving a simple answer to a simple question.

  • I use Conti stuff (apart from on the bike that sees proper descents) for everything simply because I can buy it easily.

Mastik 1 is better but much more of a pain to get.
