My Sprinters have been going strong since I dosed them with Continental Revo sealant.
The rear was flat before dosing with three holes in it, and the front was going down roughly as fast as a latex inner-tube'd tub would do due to [number] of slow punctures.
Since dosing both tyres have held their 100 psi without even needing the odd session with the pump.
Obviously I don't know if I've had a p_nctr since dosing the tubs, but that's kind of the point.

I had one 'p' in the front, sown up the traditional manner, fine. Then found a staple in the rear 2 weeks ago and another 'p'. A bloody builder staple, on the road. FFS.
I thought I go old school all the way, but unless there's tougher tires than Conti's it may not be practical after all.

Well, in the long run sealant dries. You can scrape the dried goop out of a tubeless tyre. You don't really have that option with sew-ups. So it's kinda a last resort. Cool that it can breathe life back into a busted tub though.

Purely anecdotally, I think that's far more of an issue in the dry and hot bits of the world than it is in cold and damp Blighty. I've had Stans in my 29er's tyres for over a year, and it's still liquid. I've had the Vittoria goop in my CX Evos and there's no sign of any lumps in them (from feeling them). I'm sure they'll dry out eventually, but as long as I've worn the tyres out by then it's not really a problem.

Is there anything more bomb proof than Conti Gatorskin Sprinter, or will I have to accept that the roads here are just shite and not go too far on my Ciocc?
(or build some clinchers...late 70s clincher rims hard to find alas)
Maybe try the Schwalbe durano T?
If they're anything like the clinchers they'll be great.

My mate is stretching a pair of the new Schwalbe ultremo 'one' tubs. I love ultremo clinchers, and Schwalbe say these are better in many ways. They are real soft. even compared to a Veloflex extreme. Weight was somewhat disapointing after reading the blurb. Still 282g for a 24mm is no heavy weight.

I'm giving it a go, and so far so good.
MTB'er are obsessed with getting low PSI, while maintain low rolling resistance. So its a performance thing.
Roadies just want lightweight, and grip, for performance. But sealant doesnt help here.
I guess both would like to aviod flats from sharps. Its not something I've prioritised.
I do have super heavy weight slime filled inners on the cargo bike. But that things a brick anyway.

I do plan to put tubs on the CX frame based wet weather trianer I'm not going to build.
I will be more concerned with reliability with that I guess.
Not that I should build another bike.

I've riding veloflex and Ultremo clinchers in parallel on bikes for years. I currently have veloflex tubs. So I should have a ood base for trying his Ultremos. We even have the same wheels.

i am pretty new into tubs and i do wonder if there are special treatments to take care of tubs. little homemade kitchen wizard tricks to keep the rubber in perf condition ..is there a special procedere to take care of the sidewall so they dont get brittle and smudgy ? i heard about wiping em with vinegar, but soundet a bit curious to me.

Continental Competition ProTection is Conti's tyre for the Spring classics. They are a big step robuster than the standard Comps. Competitions are, in turn, a big step robuster than Sprinters. While the Gatorskin is less fault prone than the standard Sprinter--- the Gatorskin provides better sidewall protection at the cost of comfort and rolling resistance--- its still less what the German's call "pannensicher".. All the newer Competition tyres have a Vectran belt. Vectran is not just quite light and amazingly pliable but also quite cut resistant. Kevlar, for example, might be geat in bullet proof vests but its not very cut-proof. While Conti Sprinters are a great bang for the money... but when reliability is the prime factor and not price.. I always gab for the Comps.. Lighter, better riding and "pannensicherer" but also nearly 2x the price... -

I may just go with sealant then (yes I know how you feel about that, but due to lack of finger strength it's very hard for me to get basetape/tires off and on and I hate asking Le Manfriend all the time)
So got one new one stretched, can't find the hole in other one in bucket but will fix and use as spare.

Ouch, twice the price? :(
The cheapest source I know charges 29 EURO (25 GBP) for the standard Sprinter and 55 EURO (46 GBP) for the Competition. The Sprinter Gatorskin seems to be 5 EURO over the standard....

Sure it can be pushed back.. or you leave it off... My wife lost one of the rings on her C-Record rear wheel a long time ago.. never missed it.. Unless you have "lawyer's lips" you don't need to twiddle things... (the ring is a Tullio design element that a lot of modern QRs don't even bother with)
