This has been discussed before--what was the title of the thread again? Can't remember.

I did utfs, legit confusion.
That's what I have been doing. But it's now starting to become an eyesore, is there not like somewhere to report these bikes?
(Apologies if upthread, not fully read yet)

If you searched for 'abandoned' you would have found this.
It would also have appeared when you type in the thread title.Contact the cops and see what they say but otherwise leave it alone.

Searched 'abandoned', only checked first three pages though...
Sounds like a plan, thanks.

Freddie would have wanted it that way. A rusting hulk to his victories, staring at prissy london hipsters with disdain as they shuffle the 300m commute on their colour co-ordinated cunt-wagons to the local cafe to sip soya lattes and update their couple-lifestyle-pissrag-blog.
To remove it would be to cut his heart then shit in the open wound whilst looking him in the eyes and licking a picture of eddy merckx.
Look at this man. Look at his face.
He doesn't want your lavender-scented fingers touching his fucking bike. He wants you to let it rust back into the earth before you get to consume it a teaspoon at a time.

Repped for that rather beautiful eulogy :-D

Hi all, is there not a place down at the Elephant that does something with abandoned bikes?
-
• #410
he's looking down his nose at you uber
he wants his bike to see FREEDOM again
he wants his bike to feel the wind through it's spokes
the hum of the wind reverberating in the fork
the click of the gearsnow where is this bike again

In my house, fools!
The ghost of Freddy visited me one night and gave me permission to take his bike and also a very attractive pair of panto'd bolt croppers... so off I slunk, punk.

There is an abandoned mtb in our bike sheds at home, the owner put a note on it along the lines of if you want to fix it up and use it take it (just needs a bit of a service). That was 6 months ago so I was going to UTFS for somewhere to take it but any suggestions for a suitable charity in N London? I can deliver.

post it on freeserve and you'll get lots of interest. not a charity, but at least it'll get some love and attention

Doesn't dicki do something about charity bikes? Pm him maybe

Wait until council go through the procedure to remove it, then buy it legitimately at the disposal auction.
-
• #417
Bit late but bikeworks in bethnal green told me that a lot of their recycled/fixed up and sold bikes/parts originally come from council disposals..
-
• #418
Not sure what the ethics of making a profit from it is though! Apparently they hire disabled people to work on them, help locals needs jobs and so forth so.. mebbe it's swings and roundabouts

There is an abandoned bike outside my office. It's a Carrera MTB/BSO and has been there since we moved in in January and is severely damanged. It's occupying the one bike rack we have available. However, the bike rack is on the building's land and the council can't remove it. The landlord is unresponsive. Any suggestions?

There's a cream Bob Jackson I see every day on my commute which has been slowly rusting away, literally hasn't moved an inch for at least a year or two
anyone lose it on a night out? I'd be surprised if the former owner wasn't on here tbh as its got SPD's, half decent parts, track bars, decent lock etc

used to work at the leyton bike recycling centre building up old clonkers / street finds etc
the council clearance guys use to deliver bikes cut off railings / left at waste disposal sites / found on the streetthey didn't offer qualifications but they had a couple of top notch mechanics who could assist with pretty much any job, they'd had years of practice working on 99.99 double suss MTB's so could heath robinson pretty much anything

Think I know which you're talking about, not wanting to risk thieves by mentioning specific location, is that's the one in West London?

What are people's thoughts on just using some bolt cutters and removing an abandoned BSO? Anyone fancy lending a hand?
-
• #424
yes ed, such a waste isn't it? That's why I thought, maybe something happened to the owner, or they got drunk and lost it. Or they were rich and left the country or something, or just lost interest in sweet skidz
chris0 I would just email the landlord saying you will remove it in 30 days unless they object, as its irritating everyone and clearly doesn't belong to anyone. Have you got a store round the back to keep it, just in case?

i wonder if it worth advising the police before getting the bolt croppers out
just mosying up and cutting the bike off railings is tantamount to stealing in the eyes of po-po ... just try telling them, you've been watching the bike for months and you thought you'd have it away, without sounding dodgy !and we all know what we think of real bike theifs
